Okay, we're all playing it (most of us anyways), and we usually manage to bring up the subject of WoW at least once in all the other threads here, either that or completely taking over and making the majority of the thread about the game. So having said that, keep all WoW discussions to this thread. Also, post your character names and the servers you're playing on...

Feathermoon (Guild - Echoes Eternal)
Gaets - Human rogue (60)
Caulle - NE Warrior (60)
Macguyver - Dwarevn priest (16) played occasionally
Steag - tauren druid/shaman (unsure about which I want to play from time to time)

Scarlet Crusade
Nyah - Tauren shaman (21) rarely played

I'm puny. I also want to fully work on one race/class before I go branching off.

Feathermoon
Behren - Troll Shaman

Hyjal
Behren - Troll Shaman

Coincidentally, they're both level 6 at the moment. Hyjal it seems will be my 'Normal' Server where I'll play with like 3-4 other friends, but I might drop Feathermoon and join Earthen Ring when you (you all?) go there. Like SnowFox said, I'm not too big on the guild/clan/group sort of thing, but it'd still be fun to have a common realm and run around together now and then, especially if more PK folk come over.

I've got 3.

Kriztar - Troll Hunter
Malas - Night Elf Druid
Rahal - Undead Rogue

They're all on Feathermoon and all between levels 10 and 20. I don't play too much due to classes, but I usually try and play once a day, even if for just 15 minutes.

Ohantom, were you on last night at all? It was awesome! 2 raids! I logged in and was at the inn in Hillsbrad, and there were about 40 alliance people standing in the town, half were flagged. So I rallied up the guild, and they all showed up. It was sort of back and forth...We'd push them back to the Tarren Mill, then they'd push us back and so on. They were greatly outnumbered, but they had a lot of higher seasons on their side. It wasn't enough in the end. And no surprise, it was the Low Red Moon and Unholy Trinity that were stirring up the crap again.

Then a few hours later we heard about a huge attack on Astranaar. But honestly, when doesn't that place get attacked? So off we went again, but by the time we got there they had been pushed back. We ran all the way down to Splintertree Post and they seemed to pretty much disappear. :/ There were reports of another attack, but it never happened so we all just left. I'll post some screens later when i get them uploaded. It was hella cool.

I've not strayed far from the Valley of Trials. I'm still pretty green, so I'm just running around looking at crap and killing monsters so far.

Post the screens though!

I started playing this for a while too, juz got it a week ago.
the software is still selling at about 85$ in ebay! (was$50)
and sealed collectors edition for about $200 sealed! (was $80)
Luckily pre-ordered online at bestbuy and got it the next day, which is not in the shelves at all, probably of the fear of having too much ppol on the servers will cause more lag and crashes.
Burning my time playing this than practicing drawing >_<
No one else plays PvP servers? I like it coz of ganks and raids, but getting ganked sux but real fun, when ganking others especially :P
My chars:
Ticondrius
-Moolicious - Tauren Shammy
Kil'Jaeden
-Shizuka - Human Pally

Well, because of all the massive server problems, Blizzard is probably (still rumour city right now though) going to allow a one-time move of your character to a lower pop server. I'm not sure what they'll do if that name is already taken on the other server though... Either allow you to change it, or just say no outright. Oh, I'll try to remember to post screens tomorrow. XD I have to go through my folder again and get rid of the junk ones I took accidentally while at the AH.

Also, I just found a way to make tons of money... It'll take some time to figure out a good plan, but I can now transmute mithril into truesilver. A stack of 20 mithril can usually be bought out at the AH for around 5-6g. I've searched Truesilver and never seen more than 2-3 in a stack at a time, and they usually go for a least 1-2g on their own. So a stack of 20 could probably go for 20g easily... in theory. I mean, in theory communism works, so you can see my dilemna here. Really though, I just want the stack of mithril because that'll really boost my alchemy skill points. But I'm 4 seasons away from my stupid mount. 72G! Oi! And my guild leader has 2 mounts. Can you believe that?

Snowfox
01-21-2005, 01:03 AM
I got that recipe from Gadgetzan. Haven't actually gotten any mithril to try it out on yet though, sowwy. If I make a stack of truesilver I'll tell you what I can get for it. ;3

Meth
01-21-2005, 08:25 AM
How much did you pay for it? I remember another guy in the guild saying he paid like 5G to get the recipe, but I think I got mine from the IF AH for like 1.5G. The big problem with my alchemy right now is that I'm not of a high enough season to gather the herbs I need for the good stuff.

But about those screens from the raid... I'm so pissed!!! They screenshots didn't take for some reason. I have a feeling it's because I set my hotkey to Num0, but I've been using NumLock to auto run and unless the NumLock is active, Num0 doesn't do anything. :( I took like 100 screenshots that night.

Snowfox
01-21-2005, 09:03 AM
I got it for 80 silver. I'm not sure if it was a rare selling item to that vendor or not, because it was still there when I bought it and I don't remember a number on the icon.

Oh, and I also found a recipe to make the Philosopher's Stone, but I haven't had time to scrounge up the ingredients. Would you happen to know what it is and does?

Meth
01-21-2005, 10:04 AM
You need the Philosopher's Stone in order to transmute materials. But you only need one for life (as in you don't need 1 for every bar to transmute) but here's what I'm pissed at. There's a 2 day cooldown on the mithril>truesilver recipe. I'm not entirely sure how it works yet though. It's my understanding that basically you can only transmute 1 bar of Mithril every 2 days, which is BS if you ask me. This is a totally useless profession that doesn't seem to be able to generate any money at all. I can sell greater healing potions at the AH for about 75S on average, but that means I'd have to make about 500 potions in order to make enough money for my mount. Plus there's the gathering of the ingredients...

It was my understanding that Alchemy was such a great profession because while difficult (because of the gathering), it would have a big pay off in the end because you could transmute rare metals and just sell at AH. But with the cool down, that means I can only make 3 truesilver bars/week. Oh sure, each bar goes for around 2G each, but I can make that in a day selling potions. I should have done skinning/leatherworking, or mining/blacksmithing. At least this way I could be making better armor or weapons for myself. I have a feeling that when I eventually hit 60, unless I can find a way for this to generate money better, I might just ditch it for something else.

i have a grand total of one characrter

Feathermoon (Guild - Storm Wolves)
Opeth - Human priest

i am also on the herbalist/alchemy track, and i never really expected to get rich from it, i just wanted to make my own mana potions, and (hopefully) save some money in the long run.
I'm only lvl 31 right now, and don't expect to get a mount until about 45 or so, even though unlike everyone else(or so it seems), priests dont get a speed boost skill.
What really confuses me is that i've NEVER seen a priest with a mount, but priests are rare anyways, and i still hang out in noobish 20-30 areas.
there's even some quests in redridge i can't handle, so i'll be there for awhile i think. there's a lvl 22 quest that I can't even get close to finishing, nevermind that the quest is grey and im 9 levels over.

from what i've seen, leatherworking and skinning is very profitable, as my friend steve's druid can make a gold or two a day just by processing the random leather he grabs.
Not only is skinning something where you can collect skins quickly by killing monsters (the equivalent of planting herb bushes to harvest them a few seconds later), but non skinners who kill skinnable monsters provide free skins as well.

As for more minor ways to make money, cooking hsa been pretty good to me once i hit the 175 mark. even by buying the food items at the AH, adding the spices, and then selling the cooked items nets me a small profit (usually 1 silver per item), but making money to improve a tradeskill cant be that bad on an idea. Add it to the meaty items you normally find, and it's not such a bad deal.

Meth
01-21-2005, 01:07 PM
Priests don't get a speed boost from a mount at all? That's stupid. Why would you spend 72G on something you probably wouldn't even use. Well, when you get to that point see if you can use Mithril Spurs because those give a boost. Ask Fane, he might be able to make them already unless he hasn't been outbid for the 100th time on the plans for them.

Either way, when we start up the other guild on that other server, i'm strictly going to stick to gathering. I'll supply people if they need it, but I plan to actually turn a profit next time around. Taurens get +15 to herbalism so I was thinking about that. I'm going to do skinning for sure, and then either herbalism or mining. Mostly likely mining though.

(Oh and what quest is it you're having trouble with? Let me know and I'll head over there to help you out. Also, Fane has designated Thursdays as 'Help the Guild Out' day, so if you need help let him know. He's happy to do it. I did like 4 red level quests last night without breaking a sweat. He plowed through a 45+ elite orge. I don't even know what level he was because his level was ?? for me.)

Oceans Andrew

from a mount they do, but a lot of other classes can dash, or get cheetah speed, or something else to make them faster in some way, at some point or another.

to keep up with people i generally resort to chugging speed potions, which give me a 50% speed boost for 15 seconds. works good enough, as long as i have briarthorne and swiftthistle.

Snowfox
01-21-2005, 03:34 PM
The free movement potion is worth all of the alchemy skill in my opinion. :D

Meth
01-22-2005, 08:45 AM
Oh, okay I get what you're talking about now. Well, I only get a speed boost for 15 seconds, and then I have to wait 4 minutes to get the spell again. But it has saved my life many many times. The rogue is the ultimate "get out of jail free" card. I can't stealth when I'm in combat, but I can vanish which usually takes me completely out of combat and the mobs will just turn and walk away. It has saved my life countless times (especially when you get too close to horde territory and a ?? guard aggros you), but I need flash powder for the skill. It's pretty cheap, like 50C each, but there've been a few times when I've actually run out so I have to keep monitoring my supply.

Oh, and it's confirmed... 48 hour cooldown for transmuting mithril to truesilver. I picked up a stack of 10 mithril bar at the AH for like 2G, and then later that day I sold 1 truesilver bar for 2G at the AH. So, I mean it sucks that I have to wait 48 hours to use the spell again, but I recupperated my loss from the mithril purchase that day which was nice, so it's pure profit from here on out.

(Also of note!!! Andrew, when you log off, make sure you log off in an inn, or a capital city like SW or IF. Reason behind this is because you get more rested XP than if you just logged off in a field somewhere. I noticed you did that the other night in Alterac. You'll gain rested XP like 10 times as fast in an inn, so when you log on the next day you get 200% xp from monsters for a longer period of time, allowing you to level faster.)

Too bad? As in.. you'd like to kill me? :squint:

WoW/Computer related question time: We got a laptop so that we can play two copies of the game at once. It's supposedly meets the minumum system requirements for RAM and has a lot more processing power than is required. Everything looks fine in-game except the ground, like out in the Barrens and stuff, the grass is all like checker-boarded and really poorly textured.

I was also playing with 3 other people in a group and things would get really laggy sometimes. Do you think adding more RAM would fix this problem?

Oceans Andrew
01-23-2005, 01:36 AM
Meth: thanks, im logging off in inns from now on. As for the redridge quests, i need to sneak into this tower and leave some sort of scrying glyph. It's guarded by a pack of lvl 22 elites. @ at once i can handle, but I end up out of mana. Four of them, like that are guarding the tower, are right out. That, and find a gnoll. I know where he is, i just can't get past the army of lvl 26 gnolls. I'm almost to lvl 32, so i'll get some spell upgeades, but it's a bit difficult for me.

PhantomAres: more ram will do wonders for you. Also, check your video card memory.

Lt Fangore!!! I've killed him like 5 times. That'll be fun to do now. I was 30 last time I was around there, so I'll blast through them at 37! (and I'll hit 38 tonight for sure.)

Oceans Andrew
01-23-2005, 11:50 PM
ohooo, thanks for the help on my redridge quests. It really made me feel dumb about not being able to kill him, and you took both him, and his 2 bodyguards out in 10 seconds.

the good news is that i cleaned out my bank, and i can afford artisan herbalism and alchemy now, but i think since im too weak to get the herbs i need, i'll wait on those a bit. I care more about herbalism at the moment, since the only potions i make right now are healing and mana. I figure at my level, most people won't want to spend their money on the frilly potions, and i shouldn't deviate from the basics until much much later.

Meth
01-24-2005, 12:02 AM
Get the herbalism first for sure because you wouldn't want to not be getting points in that. The thing I make the most is still greater healing potions and that's been greyed out for me for ages. I can't make the superior yet though because I need sungrass and it's in like 40+ zones. And some of the higher ones I can make now need Crystal Vials. 22S for 5. I made a bunch of superior intellect potions. I'll send you some for free if you need them for giving me all that Steelbloom, but I'm wary about just giving them away to other guild members for free. I'd at least want 22S for them to pay for the vials. Stupid potion making... Next time I'm strictly gathering and selling!!!

Oceans Andrew
01-24-2005, 07:23 AM
i think the beauty of the skinning trade is that you can combine smaller leathers to make larger on. Imagine taking (now worthless) herbs like earthroot or silverleaf and combining 4 of them to make 1 briarthorn. And leather armor is used by maybe half (i looked for 10 min but couldnt find the Warcraft census page) of the population, so the armor always has people who want to buy it.

For my character though, im not sure if skinning would be the most prudent choice, since i kill monsters slowly. I think if I was going to skin animals, i'd be a rogue, for the insane damage, rather than a priest. My insane healing is great, but it doesnt make me any richer, unless I'm grouped in an instance :)

not to say herbalism isnt good for cash either. By cleaning out my bank last night and probably earned 5-6 gold, which will pay for the spells i'll be getting at lvl 34, but i think the money towards artisan herbalism would be well spent.

Meth
01-24-2005, 07:32 AM
Let me know when you want to go to Feathermoon to get that Artisan skill and I'll go with you. Pretty tough area. Have you been to Booty Bay yet? There's a boat there that goes to Ratchet, and then we can walk through the barrens which is considerably easier than Theramore, although a lot slower at the same time. But eventually we go through Feralas. Ugh! Everything in there is over 40, and we have to take a detour around a horde camp. Either that or we could probably just walk through stonetalon, through desolace, and then through feralas.

You need the leatherworking skill to turn leather into better pieces. I just wouldn't even bother. Ruined leather scraps are garbage and I'd just sell. But once you start getting light leather you can out up at AH easily enough. Best thing about skinning is that you don't have to seach for your items. And mining will be good too. 1 truesilver bar goes for about 1-2G at the AH. Yup, that's my plan. I'm going to be rich I tells ya! Richer than astronauts!

Snowfox
01-24-2005, 11:57 AM
Me thinks I should start an Alliance character on Feathermoon since Bran never seems to be on.

Oceans Andrew
01-24-2005, 02:55 PM
ah, well that is news to me about combining. My friend makes most of his money selling items he makes at the AH anyways, but since he has skinning and leatherworking, even the light leather is useful.

For feathermoon, whatever way you think would be best. I have gryphon routes to both Nijel's point and Thalanar thanks to misreading quest directions. Perhaps we could do that tonight, my herbalism is at 223, and though i'm planning on staying in the 20-30 areas until i do all the quests (getting me to the late 30's i'm assuming), being able to gain skill from some of the stuff in arathi that i collect when passing through would be really nice, so i might as well pay up now.

Snowfox, if you made an alliance char i could come and help you out on a lot of quests. You'd lose out on individual monster exp, but would complete quests super fast. Just let me know whats up.

Woo!!! There was a raid on Astranaar tonight and I got the call to go help out. So off Andrew and I went (but he had to leave because it was too laggy). It was awesome though! I got 2 guys in the water. Then the horde just backed off and wouldn't flag. I wouldn't either if I was standing next to our GL who's a 60 Pally. Then they hit Siverpine Refuge and slaughtered everything in sight. By the time we got there everyone was dead and they were gone. Outraged we attacked Splintertree Post and totally destryoed them! We had the numbers on our side, but they had about 5 Wyverns all just start attacking at once. But we managed to push them all back, infiltrated and cleared out the camp. And that's what I put down the 42 tauren warrior. He was already close to half health, but not bad for a lowly 39 rogue who's in dire need of some new daggers. The raid looked something like this... how much is wow at a store, not the monthly price?

Spyder
01-25-2005, 01:56 AM
Thus far how much trouble have you guys had with herbalism/alchemy?

I ask because from what I saw with Mining/Engineering you make as much money as Blacksmiths if only because you can sell explosives for large amounts to players and NPCs depending on the want/total value for the explosive or equipment made.

Although I could be mistaken as enchanting is very hard to accommidate since it had little to no tolerance for regular equipment (as regular equipment doesn't disenchant and because it takes good if not better equipment to gain points in enchanting and components for most spells that seriously leaves you at a major disadvantage when trying to come up with an equipment that will work with your level and class.

Also if anyone else is playing a priest, have you yet seen the damage a lvl 60 priest (shadow focus) can do? I'm curious to it as currently I keep hearing their damage is up there with that of mages, not quite as powerful as a mage but certainly more potent than holy magic against players and has a generally higher survivability (I've already done the numbers out and over the course of 1 minute the shadow priest can do upwards of 16,000 damage while the holy priest can do a max of approximately 6500 damage). Thoughts? Also, as I wasn't sure where to post it, hello I'm new :)

Gaara: You'll pay probably $60 roughly for the game at a store, and the cost to play each month is $15US. But you get a free month when you buy it, so might be the time to determine if you like it and are going to keep playing it or not.

Spyder: As a rogue, herbalism/alchemy has come in handy because I have 0 buffs for myself. I do have Evasion whichs kicks serious ass in combat because it increases my dodge by 50%, and it's already pretty tough as is to hit my rogue, but it's got a 5min cooldown. But back to herb/alchem... You "can" make some money off it... I've been selling greater healing potions at the AH for about 75S for 5. They can sell pretty fast on a busy night too if people are stocking up to go questing. Shadow Oil sells well too it would seem, but that's about it. I don't bother with the rest of the potions because if it wastes an ingredient that I need to make an agility or defense potion then forget it.

Enchanting can make the most money if you've got the right spells. Demonslaying on a sword usually sells for around 8-9G to get that done by someone else for you. It's tough to get all the green items you need to disenchant, but once a week a few people from our guild do a BFD run, and just blast through everything picking up the items to disenchant. So usually when we have a guild meeting, she can just enchant all our stuff for free.

Dynamite too seems to be in demand. But the only real way to make money is to gather. Mining would definatly be worth your time because 1 truesilver bar goes for at least 1G at the AH if not more. And skinning just because you don't have to hunt for things to skin. They're usually right there and in your face.

congrats Meth, and good luck on your money gathering.
I'm close to 35, and dont get any new skills till 36, so i can probably make enough gold in that 110% exp to pay for my new spells and everything.

im sitting at about 15g about now, and basically won't be buying anything but new spells until i have a mount. That means no new weapons or armor, and artisan alchemy will have to wait as well. I'm ok with that, since all of the high level potions i can make need goldthorn and it's ilk, and i won't be travelling in those areas for a good long while. I've got a lot of quests in hilsbrad, a few in stonetalon and the wetlands, and i guess theres a decent number in thousand needles as well. So a few days before I'll even be collecting enough herbs to make potions that will increase skill.

I finally found a group for the stockades and finished all of the quests in there, so up next i guess is gnomeregan.

Yeah, I'm definatly sticking with the Alliance for a while for sure. Besides, Andrew, how much does our guild rock? We will be starting up a Horde guild for sure on the Earthen Ring server, but it might not be for another month or more. It probably won't be until all the high levels hit 60 and then have had a 5v5 PVP battle against Low Red Moon. LRM is actually having a tourney this weekend. I think our top 5 might be going in for a round. Either way, we're going to be playing this game for a very long time, so we will get around to a horde guild eventually. We're just having too much fun with our alliance toons.

On top of the 72 for the mount, you have to pay 18G to train to use the stupid thing. I say just give me the godamn thing and if I break my legs trying to learn how to ride it then so be it. At least I'll have a horse to drag me back to town or something. At this rate I'll be able to afford a horse IRL before I will in the damn game. I'm seriously thinking about ditching alchemy at this point so that I can take up skinning or something so that I can at least make a profit.

Ah WoW, I played for two months, then decided that between massive lag and the port locks here at school (stupid file-sharers) that my wallet could use an extra 15 bucks a month. BUT I was on Shattered Hand, I had a level 28 NE Druid, if he's not around when I decide to start playing again, probably this summer, then I might join up with you all on a server.

Only problem is that I rather enjoy the PvP servers, ganking Horde that are a level or two higher than me is fun.

Roots, Wrath, Wrath, Wrath, Moonfire, Fairie Fire, Root again... ah... crap, now I'm missing the game. Why do I do this.

Meth

Well, it may not be a PVP server, but there's at least one major raid each night. And on several occasions the horde has been successful enough to get a raid big enough to take over Darnassus. So there's still lots of PVP stuff going on all the time.

In the mean time... 56 gold down, 34 more to go. Thanks for the offer OA, but I'm not too far off now. I'm just selling everything I come across. What I need to do is gather up a whole TON of liferoot today, and make as many greater healing potions as I can. I usually sell those for about 75S for a stack.

Man.. I'm almost lvl 15. That'll be a big accomplishment for me.

Yeah, on Hyjal, the Alliance attacks Horde like every day. I've actually seen the same people show up a few times. Kind of sucks since I'm not strong enough to do anything yet. Especially since it's like 3-5 guys (still ?? level for me) show up and beat the crap out of you for a while, then like one lvl 40ish Horde guy shows up and practically rapes them.

Hey, I was wondering, what's the level gap that makes you see enemy levels as '??'

I'm definitely making an Alliance character on Feathermoon soon. I'm torn between druid and mage at the moment..

Well it's not like they can just walk right up to Danassus. They had coordinated it so that at the same time a whole bunch of little cities were being attacked around the world. So while the alliance was guarding these cities they seemingly fled, they (horde) all left for Danassus instead. Also factor in that we outnumber the horde 3-1 on my server.

Hey, I was wondering, what's the level gap that makes you see enemy levels as '??'
I think it's 10 levels or more.

Could someone explain to me what you mean by town attacking?
(If a certain server is not pvp then how can you attack each other?)

And when I get the game...what server should I go on? (Should I go on a server with one of you?)

(If a certain server is not pvp then how can you attack each other?)

Okay, first up town attacking. There are two sides, alliance and horde. Although I don't play on a PVP server, the horde can still attack an alliance town, and vice versa. All guards and most merchants all have PVP enabled. So attacking them automatically turns yours on. Also, attacking someone with their PVP on also turns yours on. At least you can quest and not worry about someone coming up behind you and ganking you because your PVP is on all the time like the PVP servers.

As far as server goes...
PVP = Player VS Player. Meaning that you can pretty much get attacked at any point in time by anyone (monsters, other players etc...) And what's worse, a lot of people on those servers can be dicks so you'll get a rogue 20 seasons higher than you sneaking up on you and killing you. And there would be no way to detect something stealthed if it's that many seasons above you.

Normal = Title says it all. You can do your quests, and not worry as much about being attacked by other players on a whim. You can still engage in PVP whenever you want by putting your flag up. I'd never play on a normal server just because of all the l337 speak and overall annoying people.

RP = Role Play. You wouldn't BELIEVE the number of people on these servers that have no idea what RP means. You have to play your character. It's not just a game on RP servers. You give your character a life through your actions and words. You'd pick up on it pretty fast if you talk to others who are really into it. I'm going all out playing my rogue as a pirate, and at first I thought it was really nerdy and I felt weird doing it, but now I get really into character as I play. "Arr! Smartly there me hearties and sit down whiles we splice the mainbrace." That sort of thing. It's also back story too. I've just been making mine up as I go along about how I used to sail for Cap'n Morgan until I marooned him on Sety island, stole his ship and took over the rumrunners of Parrot Bay.

Did you get a bunch of pirate gear doing VanCleef Meth? :D

I've got all the defias gear sitting in my bank except for the chest piece. Only VC drops that, and the last time I was there he dropped the Cruel Barb. The big problem I have with the defias gear is that it's amazing for a low level rogue (like 14-16ish), but the odds of getting it all at that level are slim seeing as how you should be at least 20 before doing a deadmine run. I guess being 41 now I could probably do the run by myself and take out VC in hopes of him dropping that chest piece. There's another problem I have with it... It binds when you pick it up, so you couldn't give it away or sell at AH.

The Defias gear looks really cool on though, so I wear it to guild meetings or formal events when we get together for a drink. But lately I just throw on my swashbuckler's shirt, crimson pantaloons, and sandals instead. I need a new hat though.

Have you seen the Black Mageweave set? o_O Racy!!! And one of my guild members can make a tuxedo, and apparently it looks rather smart on the women too so I might save up enough mageweave to get one made for myself.

ive been playing semi pvp recently. THink of it as pvp on easy mode. If i'm in an area where most of my quests are done, or if im not questing at the time, i'll throw up my pvp flag and see if anyone ganks me. More often than not it doesn't happen, but on the times it has happened, it's been a huge rush, even if i had to haul ass to stay alive.

i am really enjoying the RP server, though not everyone role plays per se, the spelling and grammer is way better than the other servers.

as seen in my sketchbook:
http://www.oceansend.com/5502/2005/538.jpg

unless you have a character to play as planned out, you have to kindof let them grow into it. My character is still developing, though it seems that if the backstory is totally dumb, it makes it more fun.

My story so far is that I was raised by parrots, dropped off at a monestary when i was 18, and worked there for some time blessing the soap in the washrooms. Later on, I left the Abbey to get a priest some wine from the nearby vinyard, and was duped by a stormwind guard to run errands for them, and it just snowballed.
I challenge anyone to come up with a more terrible story. Maybe to make it more believable, I just got hit on the head and am delusional, and made all that stuff up.

anyways, RP servers are fun, and i like to fight horde and duel and stuff.

I've yet to become insanely imaginative with RPish text, so I think I'll avoid the 'Fare thee wells' and stuff at the moment, but I won't go all L337 either.. which I never do anyway. In other words, I'm not hardcore, but I won't make myself look like a jackass (hopefully). When I joined up yesterday there wasn't like anybody actually talking IN character, so bleh.. A serious RPer in the realm saw all that and said it was kind of a downer, and I found myself agreeing despite not really having a strong RP vibe myself.

On a side note, the Troll RPers really tickled me with their in-character antics. At first I thought it was some filter that took what you said and made it more Troll-ish, since everybody was like, "Thank ye, mon." :D

Haha... The trolls are supposed to be Jamaican, thus the way they talk. Pity because I have a Tauren shaman on another server and I was going to play her up as a jamaican preistess, but seeing as how Trolls have stolen my brilliant idea for characterization I'm left to come up with something else. Maybe I'll base her off that psychic from the Simpsons... What was her name? Mya Angelou? Whatever.

OA: You should post that image on the SW forums! They'll all get a kick out of it. And the next contest after the writing will be art. Woo!!! You missed the meeting OA! I got promoted! It was sweet. And Shirkata got promoted too. Then that big PVP thing didn't happen. >_> Vap said she couldn't get confirmed people to show up. And when i got to Thandol Span half of the LRM was there. Anywho. Fane and Shir did some 2 on 2 stuff and were destroyed. It was just a warrior and a priest but they couldn't get through the shields and he just feared them practically off the bridge. And then Fane went up against a Shaman. Man, they're nasty too. Had the actual event gone on with the original 5v5 I don't know how long they would have lasted. Order of the Rose showed up and did a 5v5 and lost in about 30 seconds. (Mind you none of them were 60). LRM are such BS'ers when they say they are not all about PVP. It was clear tonight that they were entirely built for fighting. But I can't wait till you hit 60 though. Priests are supposed to be godly when it comes to PVP. We're going to have to practice dueling.

Gaara

Meth
01-30-2005, 08:18 AM
60 is the max for now. They'll probably life the cap when the expansion comes out.

And as far as a priest goes... You can go one of two ways really... Shadow or Holy. Shadow will allow you to dish out more damage, but Holy will make you a better support class for healing. But OA will be able to help you more.

Oceans Andrew
01-30-2005, 12:13 PM
ok, Gaara, here's the deal. Unless you want to be very very sad throughout the entire game, you want to be shadow specced. Holy is awesome once you hit level 60, because then you'll be doing huge instance raids and stuff, and will have babysitters, but for the first 59 levels, I see no reason to be holy. Of course, unless you want to hate yourself and WoW.

you start getting skill points for your spec at level 10 i think.
heres a useful tool for planning stuff out.
http://thottbot.com/?ti=Priest

my suggestion is to spend your first 8 points in the discipline field.
first getting unbreakable will to level 5, and then level 3 improved power word :shield.

from there go to the shadow field and get level 5 blackout, then improved shadow word: pain.

i think once you get to that point, you'll have a good idea of what skills you like to use and what you wait to build up next.

and my goal, is to become godly at PVP, since the battlegrouds idea sounds amazing. I might not even respec to holy when i hit 60, because ive been having a really good time of dueling. I've yet to lose any duels, though that's just because i've only dueled a few times.

I am sad i missed out on the guild meeting, but some RL obligations came up. :P
Congrats on your promotion!
I managed to come on later that evening to find several wolves defending southshore. I healed Fane once, and suddenly i see the "700 damage" "600 damage" on my portrait, and it's over. I guess maybe the horde didnt want me to heal him. ;-D

I just redid my talents like night. I had put 2 into sprint which are now useless to me because I have a mount. And I had 4 into subtlety, but seeing as how I only use stealth occasionally to pick pockets I didn't see a need either. Although I'm using crappy daggers right now and don't do that much damage, I'm really hard to hit. She dodges or parries at least 50% of all attacks, so for every hit I do take, I usually dish out at least 8. Also, I when I sucessfully parry I can disarm my target for 6 seconds which i think will be huge in PVP in the future. I think my big strategy will be to engage in combat, disarm my target, then activate blade furry (increses my attack speed) and that one that regenerates my energy by 100% for 10 seconds because then I could build up combo points really fast and then use my finishing move which has crit for almost 1000 a few times. Average is about 500 I guess. I'm building my rogue for PVP really. Watching the tourney yesterday really made me want to get into that more.

Haha!!!! Did you hear about the warrior's union and what they did on the Argent Dawn server? o_O Okay, obviously there are some flaws in the class, and I'm sure Blizzard is looking into it and will address it with the next patch. But creating 200 new toons and dancing naked outside the AH in IF is not the way to go about things. You ruin the game for everyone else and risk getting banned. The server had to be taken offline for 3 hours just to fix the massive lag problem they caused. Someone on the WoW boards said she had a list of over 200 people she was reporting. I would have done the same had I been there as well, especially if the server was taken down.

Warriors miss more than rogues, can't tank nearly as well as paladins or hunter pets, can't do nearly as much DPS as rogues, mages, hunters. Their abilities suck for PvP. I'm sure some people would beg to differ, but that's pretty much my experience along with hundreds of other people who post in that forum.

Missing sucks. My rogue doesn't seem too bad. It also depends on the level of the mob I'm fighting. Anything more than 2 levels below and I rarely miss.

They're supposed to implement some sort of system later where you can learn new languages so that there won't be such a barrier between the sides. I hope it's actually something that you have to work for instead of just "Okay here. You guys all speak the same language now."

Snowfox

Oceans Andrew

I wouldn't want to move to a PVP server. I have way too much fun on an RP server. My guild is hardcore about it, and it was weird at first but now I fit right in. But I don't see why they wouldn't let you move from PVE to RP. The only problem is that my server is quickly becoming a high pop server, which sucks. Maybe only half the people there are actually RP'ing, so I hope a lot of people take their toons off mine and migrate elsewhere. Especially a few high level dicks on the alliance who think they're hot shit, but are too chicken to actually show up to a tourney. And as much as LRM is feared or hated or whatever you want to call them, I have the utmost respect for them as a guild. Absolutly 100% polite and curteous at the tournament in Thandol Span.

there are times i wish i was on a pvp server, so i could fight more, but other times when i just want to quest. Finding someone to fight is hard sometimes, and i don't want to just gank enemy NPC's, because im not sure what my guild's policy is on it.
Is it ok to kill any enemy npcs? Is it ok to kill only ones that don't give quests? No killing unless provoked? I'm not really sure.

as for the thandol span tourney, i'd love to fight on another there. For some of the quests I just used mind control and had my dark dwarf opponents throw themselves off the bridge, and it would be even funnier to do that to a human opponent.

im not sure if blizzard would let people move to an RP server from PVE, but its more likely than letting PVE or RP move to PVP.

I've put my Shaman on hold for a while and tried out a Warlock and a Warrior. I've not had any issues with the Warrior, and though he does miss sometimes when fighting at-or-above leveled enemies, it's nothing to cry over. It's been a lot easier to quickly wipe out a few mobs then I experienced before, so I'm going to take him all the way then come back for my Shaman. I just kind of lost interest in managing the totems for a while.

All of this on Hyjal still..

I haven't logged into my Human Mage on Feathermoon since the day I made him. Nobody was actually RPing at the time and I didn't have anybody to play with so it's on hold also.

OA: Nah, I'd still never want to be on PVP. Still too much fun on RP. But don't worry, I'm sure there will be tons more tournaments in the future. Also it depends on where you're playing and at what time of day. There's at least one raid/fight in Hillsbrad nightly it seems. There was one last night when I went to turn in a quest, and I took down a troll warrior, but there were like 50 alliance to 5 horde so I just left. Didn't really seem like much of a fun fight because it wasn't fair. I find those raids are only really fun when we get Fane and Lilly and the rest of the guild over there.

Also, our policy is basically this. If you're fighting NPC's around your level then go for it. Just don't kill the quest givers (although might be hard seeing as how you woulnd't know exactly which ones they are), and especially don't attack the crossroads. But ask Fane a little more on the subject. I think we might end up organizing a raid for the next meeting again so that we can continue with the Lupos storyline.

Phantom: Just go to IF and tell people that you're looking for a guild to join that's heavy on the RP. If you're just walking around you're not going to find people. Half the time when I group up to go on a quest, I'm not doing any serious RP talk at all mostly because they aren't. But some guilds are strict about RP though. We're fairly strict about it. We have a channel for OOC stuff, and you wouldn't get in trouble persay in the guild chat but you'd get a warning for sure. Plus, if you joined up with a guild and they didn't RP to your standards you can always quit. Okay, one last thing. Make a post on the Feathermoon boards or something. "I'm disappointed by the lack of RP... blah blah blah... I'm looking for a guild who actually sticks to RP, PST..."

i'm guessing that it's because the crossroads is a sortof lowbie area, and it does seem that there are nightly clashes at either hillsbrad or ashenvale, which is pretty cool.

i'll talk to Fane and see. It might be a chore to look up the npcs i plan on attacking beforehand to see if they give a quest or not, but it's not a huge deal.

Snowfox
02-01-2005, 01:29 PM
Once you hit 20 and head into contested areas because they're the only way to do quests and level up anymore... you might regret being in a PvP... but also it depends on which server you're on, I've been on two so far, haven't had much ganking problem in one, but the other there were tons of level 50+ roaming around just looking to be wagnards... (Lodoss War humor X3).

Meth
02-01-2005, 11:28 PM
Well, attacking the crossroads isn't such a big deal if you're around the same level as the guards. But a lot of times it's a bunch of level 50+ people who are doing the attacking. So being of that level they should try something a little more difficult like the Tarren Mill where the deathguards are at least of the 50th season. But the thing I always find funny is the fact that the alliance outnumber the horde 3-1 on our server, but the Horde's raids on the major capitol cities always seem to go a little better (at least until numbers eventually overwhelm them). I've seen Degmarlee (troll rogue) on an almost daily basis in Stormwind. But also, it's one thing to be 50+ an attack the crossroads, but it's another to BRAG about it on the WoW forums. There's one guild who wanted to challenge the horde guild who hosted the tournament on Saturday, and they confirmed over and over that they'd be there, but the day of they never showed up. It's because they were over wiping out the Crossroads knowing that all the top 30 horde players were on the other side of the world. So a big flame war pretty much broke out on the forums with most people, alliance and horde alike, being pissed off about the gloating.

My thoughts? When you're good you don't need to brag or gloat because your reputation will proceed you. All you need is a little word of mouth and eventually everyone on your server will know who you are.

There's no reason for it to not run, but for some reason Warcraft dies all the time. Are you running XP? I'm using XP Pro, and according to a lot of people in my guild, XP has been notorious for massive game crashes with DOAC. The solution? Win2K. Now, I don't entirely know what to believe. Games have never run properly on this system, but I've never had a problem with my laptop and that's also running XP Pro. A few people think I might have a defective video card, but I'm still skeptical about any problems at this point. I'm going to try and get ahold of Win2K from a friend this weekend to try installing it and seeing what happens. If it solves the problem, fine. I'll go out and buy a copy. 1.A nice format will help (If you dont know how to format then ask a freind who know to do it for you)
2.Do you have a firewall on? (Norton Antivirus for example)
3.Try to re-install the game
4.Do a nice Virus Check
5.Try doing Scandisk (Its at the start menu somewhere)

Which windows do you use? Be a little more specific with your problem
It doesnt have to do with your hardware, so you dont have to buy more parts

Your computer is probably just overheating. Try putting in some more fans or if it's like under a table putting it somewhere more circulated. You can change when the system will automatically shut off in the BIOS probably, but it may be unhealthy to do so.

If the game uses to much of the CPU then that could be the heating issue, Doesnt the game have a troubleshooting for this problem? cause heating can casue problems in the future.

At least you get to play for 10 min. I have to wait for the WoW to come to Europe, Should be out here this month, Im gonna preorder just in case it sells out. Cant wait

His problem sounds similar to the one I have, but I find it hard to believe that I have a heating issue. I have a huge Chemning case with 2 case fans in the back, and another in the front for the HD. (I don't use the one in the side) But I think my PC is well ventilated. Someone asked me about that in the OOC guild chat a few weeks back and when I told them they just laughed saying what I had was more tha sufficient.

Well, I unistalled it like 15 time. Defraged about 80 and totally got rid of that damn norton virus thingy! Im still having the same problem. And for the over heating, I dont think its that. I called the technical support squad and after waiting 5 mins. (on hold :) ) I got through. He said that my computer is above reqiurments to play the game, but it has too many things running in the background. (The CPU Processor is running at 36%.) The techinical support guy said that with the crap in my computer it should be running under or around the teens (10%-19%). Im getting rid of mostly everything that runs by itself.

Im changing everything just to play a MMO that will probably be taking away after my report card comes out! :)

i have yet to hear any super nerdy roleplaying while in game, but i know it'll happen eventually. I look forward to it.

my 40th level and 88th gold piece are both looming on the horizon, as i need about 25k exp and about 4 gold to get my horse. I was pretty sure i wouldnt have the cash for a horse until my mid 40's, but it seems like i'll have the money i need before i can even get to the right level. Depending on how things go tomorrow, I might get them both.

You must not have been around when Shirk was RP'ing up a storm. One night she went through the whole Fall of Lupos story with Tengaar, which was pretty cool. Then there's that whole execution thing. Of course I'm highly against it, and if interferring and staying the execution isn't an honourable thing, then I guess I'll just have to interfere and stay the execution. Besides, pirates are honourbound to no man! Or woman as the case may be.

that 1000 gold horse in brill is awesome. gotta be 60, and it's really fast and stuff, so cool.

The cost of that horse goes down the better your faction is. I just got the next stage up from Honoured with Stormwind, but I didn't check to see what the prices went down to. I know it was a lot less than 1000 when I was honoured. And I'm sure by the time you hit 60 you'll be exhalted.

as for warrior, I am certain there will be some changes, probably involving rage generation and accuaracy, since those are the 2 things i hear the most complaints about.

I've heard bits and pieces about the Lupos story, but never the whole thing. It sounds pretty cool so far, I just need to be on at the right time, or maybe check the guild messageboard.

I've made it to a lvl 21 dual sword-wielding Orc Warrior and I STILL don't understand what people say is wrong with that class. Sure, I miss now and then and it's a given that waiting for Rage to build up is a pain, but it's still my favourite class so far.

I've got my 15 Troll Shaman and my 10 Undead Warlock sitting on the back burner and back there they will stay. I'm loving the Warrior. When I get the mount for him, I'll either catch up with the Shaman or make another Mage.

Speaking of which, where the crap are the wolf mounts for the Orcs? I've seen the kodos, raptors, and undead horses, but I've not found the wolves. Which is weird, because all the mounts seem to be like right next to the starting area for each (Horde) race (Troll = Sen'jin, Undead = Brill, Tauren = Bloodhoof) but I just can't find the wolves to oogle at..

Mm.. I've made it to 21 and have like 5 and a half gold.. maybe I should start saving more money now for my mount. (That's ok, I found yesterday I can make almost a gold a pop just going to the Field of Giants and collecting lvl 20ish scorpid parts. ) Man.. if I manage to keep my 'level a day' trend it'll still be three weeks before I have one..

By the way.. I've noticed other races on horses lately.. like Trolls and Dwarves.. I had been under the impression that each race only had one mount. Is there any difference between them (besides like different colors/speeds for ONE type)?

Oceans Andrew
02-07-2005, 10:33 AM
depending on your relationship with different races, you can use their mounts. Im not quite sure how the troll managed to nab a horse, but i've seen a lot of dwarves riding them, and i think it all just depends on your faction rating.

Don't worry about saving too much money for your horse, I started saving at level 36 and still made it just in time for level 40.

The thing i'm having with the warrior is even with pretty good equips, shield and a good mace. I have a hard time fighting like 13 humanoids and stuff...they do like half my HP which is 498 at level 17. It's all so hard, I use my skills well, but half the time they miss. half. My priest at 15 doesnt get anywhere near as hurt as my warrior.

Snowfox

I'd be completely happy if they just increased the warrior's hit ratio. It's not above my level 21 to miss over 5 times in a row with a slow two-handed polearm against a level 17 even. I think that is the main most problem.

my druids looking for a guild, any space for one more?

You need to contact Shirkata for recruitment. It's totally out of my hands. And we're a pretty serious RP guild, so you'd have to adhere to those standards as well.

And grats on your horse Opeth!!!! You'll have to show me it next time you're around, and then we can ride off in the sunset together!!! Oh, and yes you can get another races' mount if you have Exhalted with their city. It's tough though... Fane has been killing stuff for weeks to get that state so that he can get a wolf. He wants all the Storm Wolves to eventually have a wolf mount. Could you picture that though? All of us riding up to a raid on wolves? That'd be boss. (and the dwarves you see on horses are probably pally's... At least I've never seen a dwarf on a regular horse yet.)

Funky. My 21 Warrior only seems to miss (to the point of being frustrating) against at-or-above-leveled mobs. It could, however, just be that I don't mind missing just once or twice when it takes 10-15 hits to kill something.

Gaara

All I know is that my buddies hunter was soloing RFC at 15 and I can't even get past the first guy at 17. Lame.

Meth
02-07-2005, 10:26 PM
Well, usually it does sell well yes. As long as it's got a big strength or stamina boost it'll go for at least a couple of G at the AH. But considering how small the leather drops are, it also means that there's very little to purchase at the AH. I'm at the point now where when I do a search for a dagger or 1H sword, the highest level stuff at the AH is usually at least 2-3 levels below me. Armor isn't *quite* as bad, but the selection is very small. And if it doesn't have an AGI bonus I don't bother with it. From here on out I'll probably have to rely a lot on what other guild members can either find or craft for me.

And that's another problem too... A lot of the high level leather recipes don't actually make leather... They make mail.

Wow, tried getting in feathermoon as an NE rogue. Just started asking what the heck RP is and what is its difference with PvP, along with a couple of new people, and all just acted liked crazy. They said things like, "If you can't even understand what RP is, you should get out of this server." Some weird person also claimed he was RPing for 20 years....eh. They started talking about muting trolls to be safe....eh o_O. I'm like, WTF, I just kept asking them how do they become "one with the character," but all disses came back at me, even though i'm like asking nicely, along to some people i met who were also new to RP from PvP. Hehe, they got irritated and just told us to leave if we don't get this purpose of being the character, hehe. Well, it was during the maintenance this morning while waiting for the PvP servers to go up, which took about an hour and a half delay. Not sure if i should try RP...several weird ppol I already noticed in the first 10 minutes I was in...
Can anyone actually tell me the difference with all the 3 server types and help me clear about this? Thanks.

Protius404
02-08-2005, 07:13 PM
Well Lancer, PvP server is the Player V.S Player server, where players can attack one another freely I believe. I havn't made a PvP char personally. Normal servers is where you just act normally and talk about real life etc. RP (Roleplaying) is where you use like...an alias of sorts. The char you create, you become them and stay in char like you are them. Ex. like creating a backstory for them or when your in groups you say things your char may say. Basicly pretending your the person in the game. Hope that clears some things up.

Meth
02-08-2005, 08:24 PM
TVBoomer: Fastest way to level without a doubt is to quest. Quest like it's going out of style. You'll get mucho XP from the mobs you kill, and a nice great big fat bonus when you do claim the quest. i did on the other day which basically entailed me to just find a bunch of clues all over the world. I got about 1300xp after I found each clue, and a whopping 6100 when I found the final chest, and there was a 14slot bag inside. Neat. And if you're having trouble with a quest, find a party. Up until now soloing has been really easy, but I'm getting a lot of elite quests now that I need a party for.

Lancer.Evox.2k: Heh, sorry to hear you got bitched out on an RP server for asking the difference. But even I chew out new people who come into an RP server and then yell over the general chat "What does RP mean?" My response is always "If you don't know, then you're on the wrong server." The thing is there's a very select few people who really love this whole RP thing, so Blizzard caters to us by making a couple of servers (in fact less than 5% of all WoW servers are RP), but the general population wants either PVE or PVP servers. So it just sort of irks us when you get non-rp players on an RP server. Don't let it deter you though. If you really want to play on an RP server by all means go ahead. Just try to be an actor the whole time and remain in character. I mean, if you get out of it once and a while, who cares... Everyone does. But some people are really really offended by people who don't stay in character. So I warned you...

trolls are great, if they were in the alliance i'd be one.

Meth
02-09-2005, 09:20 AM
Haha... The funny thing was that I had no idea trolls were supposed to be Jamaican at first because I had never heard them talk. Then I made a Tauren shaman and was telling a friend that I was going to make her be like a Jamaican preistess in character, and he just looked at me and said "Trolls are already Jamaican." and then immdiately afterwards I noticed people talking like that on the WoW boards. So there went my brilliant idea. Although I guess I could say I was raised by trolls. After all, Opeth was raised by parrots.

snowfox is saying that it happens, don't worry about it.

I am inclined to agree, it doesn't bother me, it's actually pretty funny, and i've never seen it, and that was the case, i'd just ignore it. Not a huge deal.

what was a huge deal was the story-line thing that happened with the storm wolves last night, it was totally sweet, and way more exciting than the one that had happened a few days earlier.

As Meth said, it was a good thing i was a priest, since i ended up resing one of the characters 5-6 times after she got smacked down in the wetlands (she was lvl 4).

i also got to do some exorcism as well, and it was really fun.
here's the only shot that really turned out great. Please excuse my shitty video card.

Woo! That's me!!! I bought a new sword yesterday and it looks like a katana. So combine that with my mask, and my tuxedo suit and I look like a totally badassed ninja.

Well, the 'girls' got together for a camping trip yesterday. Oh my god I havn't been that bored playing a video game in years. I mean, ugh! I wouldn't even go on an all girls camping trip IRL and here I was there during the game. So I just suited up and said I had a date with a giant lizard. This was after the first hour of course. So far that's been the worst RP event I've attended thus far. You should have crashed the party Opeth. Would have been funny.

Oh, Opeth, I was working on the 'Cure' storyline yesterday. I said I'd check into my 'pirate' connections, but I'm too lazy so I just keep saying that they yeild nothing. But I know Cinther IRL (we used to work together) so I'm going to drop by and visit him at work this week and we're going to scheme up a crazy plan.

meth: just had a great idea for my part of the cure storyline once we find out the exorcism did nothing at all. It'll help make my character more interesting, and will give the storyline a bit more dimension. Not sure how i'm going to pull it off, but i

protius: do it, man. problem solved, and he gained a huge increse in framerates and can crank up a few of the settings.

snowfox: the recruiters for the guild are Tengaar and Shirkata, that i know of. give them a ring, once you contact them, you'll get a quest to do, and once you complete it, you should be good to go. Mention that both Opeth (and possibly Gaets) vouch for you for bonus points.

Meth
02-14-2005, 12:57 PM
OA: Got the msg. Sounds good to me so far! And wait till you hit Zul'Farrak. Oh man huge frame rate loss in that place. I don't know if it was just extra laggy that night (Kayde kept lagging during fights), but I was getting like 12-17 at times. Normally my laptop runs with a smooth 30+ minimum. Although my desktop (when she isn't being a bitch) gets at least 60+

Snowfox: Yeah, just drop one of those two a line and drop our names. Tengaar hasn't been online too much lately. Busy with work, but chances are you'll find Shirkata on all day long.

Meth
02-14-2005, 01:07 PM
Snowfox: Crap. I just remembered... Our GL mentioned last night that recruitment is closed right now until we get to know the younger members. We've added a few people lately, and he wants to make them feel welcome. And it's hard to do that if we keep adding more members. Opeth and I might be able to get you in, but no guarantees.

I'm quite disappointed at blizzard at the moment.

I live in sweden so WoW was released last friday. Of course I bought the game the very same day (pre-order), eager to play. Well at home I installed the "retail patch", making my beta version a retail one. I started making an account succesfully entering my authentication key. Eventually I reached the part of the registration progress where you're supposed to fill in your billing information. As I don't have a credit card I checked the Pre-paid game card option. Thinking I was almost ready to start playing. But what now??? The account setup page want me to enter my game card number. Wasn't the first month supposed to be free, I thought to myself. After browsing the forums I looking for answers I noticed that a lot of players had encountered the same problem. The solution: Buy an game card and you will get one extra month on that card. Fair enough, though the information could be better, I guess Blizzard has some good reason for having it like this. So, I contacted my local game store, asking if they had any game cards. The answer was as dreadful as unexpected. The game card wont be available at the market for at least three weeks. My hearted stopped beating. Could this be true? Did I missunderstand what the were telling me? Once again I turned to the forums for answers. My ears had told me correctly, the game card was due the european market sometime in march.

To summarize it all. I bought the game for 449sek (=$61) and won't be able to play it unless I can persuade one of my friends to borrow his creditdard number until the game cards is available (as he won't be charged anything the first month anyway).

Why release the gamecards three weeks after the game itself. I can't think of any reason. Surely, they must know not everyone has a credit card.

I just felt I had to let of some steam. I apologize if anyone was offended by this post.

PS.
School is killing me, I haven't been able to post in here since the beginning of january, I think it was. Don't ask how i'm going to find time for playing WoW, but somehow It's going to work. Who needs math anyway :P.

Snowfox

My advice : Enjoy your life for these three weeks, because you won't have a life after you start playing.

Haha! Snowfox is right. I eat, sleep and breathe WoW these days. I've had dreams before about the stupid game! And it's even worse on the RP servers because you always want to know more about all these crazy stories. BTW, Snowfox I think I'll be taking another team from the guild down into the deadmines soon, so let me know if you want to go. The last time I went down I ran through the whole instance in just over an hour. It was awesome. And you'll get a ton of XP from all the quests from down there.

I had a friend borrow me his credit card number so hopefully I'll be upp and running sometime tomorrow. Now the problem is the queing lines to get on the server. They can be 2 hours long sometimes. Oh well, at least 2 hours is better than three weeks.

New patch just installed today, which sux with uber nerfed of pallies and sort, and also screw up the cosmos UI.
If anyone having any troubles with cosmos, which forced me to remove the interface to play, this is what u do:
-In character select screen, click addons on bottom left, then uncheck ckeck version on the top, then exit game.
-Open cosmos and update ur files until completed.
-Open the worldofwarcraft folder > Interface > FrameXML > open FrameXML.toc in notepad.
-Change the number 4150 to 4211 and save.
Run WOW and it should have ur spell slots like b4 the patch again. GL ;)

Man, now I want to replace the generic video card that came on my PC. A buddy just got a new card and he's drooling over the improved graphics.

And I'd like to remedy the following nightly scenario:
Running somewhere with my wife /following me to do a quest.
Her: Why are you running into that piggy camp?
Me: What piggy camp?
Five seconds later (literally) the Razormane camp starts to materialize on my screen, whereas she's been seeing it all along on her laptop. And most of my display settings are set to higher quality. I can also say.. running down a road or trail, see a definite area where the detail level drops off around my character. That WOULD be a videocard issue right?

Oceans Andrew

glad you finished the quest, that shit was a nightmare.
I'm really close to 43 now though after turning in all of those quests.

I am getting a new computer tonight, and hopefully they will have a mac copy of warcraft at the store so i can take advantage of the new 256mb graphics card right away. My friend adam is going to give the game a shot, and will be paying for half of the costs, and once i install the game, he gets the serial number and all that.

I always attributed everything suddenly appearing around me to lag, not a graphics card thing.

Meth
02-16-2005, 06:20 PM
Phantom: It could be lag, it could be your computer... But rarely do I ever notice things not appearing due to lag. What video card you using?

OA: No, you don't need a lv60 raid group to beat those bosses. The stone chick is actually really easy to beat. When I took her down, I was in my mid 40's and everyone else in the group was around the same (might have even been more early 40's.) The difficult one is the last guy (Archeadas). It takes a while to fight your way down to him for starters. And you pretty much need a full party of 5 to beat. At least one healer, and two tanks. The tanks go in and take care of the big guy. The healer keeps them alive. But as your fighting him he summons all these little minions around him. So the other two people need to take out the minions before they can get in to attack the tanks. BTW, you shouldn't need to get a mac copy of the game. I believe the game was released PC and Mac ready from the same discs.

Meth: I'm certain all my specs check out, RAM, CPU speed, etc. It's just the PC and the laptop are literally next to each other (share the same broadband through router) and approaching the same town at the same time, you can see buildings and stuff clearly from a considerable distance on the laptop but the PC will show nothing but the generic 'hills' terrain in the background and as you get nearer things will start to show, first the shape of the building then details. And I'll mention again that the in-game display options for both machines are set identically.

The PC has whatever generic video card that comes with Compaq PCs. The laptop has a ATI Radeon 9000 (if I spelled that right). If that helps any. I really know jack about computer components, hardware wise.

Oh, my mage (almost level 21, woot) got ganked by a 60 rogue tonight. That's what I get for passing around the Arcane Intellects. It might have been impressive if I hadn't seen the punk run up to me then go into stealth. He was almost immediatly killed by a 47ish shaman. Alliance really sucks on Hyjal; they have no organization whatsoever and seem to only attack our lowbie areas as far as I've heard. Even when they 'zerg' on us half their number of Horde high levels mops the floor with them.

Protius404

Phantom: It's your videocard, because i just replaced mine with an ATI Radeon 9600 and everythings great. Because besides the light problem i mentioned earlier the textures on my char or just trees and buildings would just disappear and be smooth blocks. Some items wouldn't show at all even, like lamp posts etc. so i'd be running into invisable walls and stuff.

Meth

Meth
02-17-2005, 11:06 AM
Geez, even a 128mb Radeon 9000 would be good enough, and those are cheap if you can find one. I actually just sold my old one for $20 to a friend because I put an All-In-Wonder 9800 in back in November. Just looking at the prices of video cards from the store I normally shop at, I can buy a Radeon 9600 with 128mb for about $125 canadian. That would be more than enough to notice a difference in game.

The Bran Eating Zombie

OA: Pennington signed on the other day. I used to quest like crazy with that guy back in my 20's and then he disappeared for almost a month. But at least he's dedicated to school and put the game on hold for finals. But yeah, there are a lot who havn't been on in a long time. but i don't think we should just clear them out just incase. just took part in my first town raid where i was actually useful.

I managed to get about 5 kills for my 8 deaths, which is a pretty good average i'd say.

it was in southshore and tauren mill, and went back and forth for awhile. The closest we got to the mill was the field, where we managed to kill a few npcs before the 10 deathguards spawned. most of the 57+ alliance characters fought them, while us lowbies did the other stuff.

pretty fun times, the horde outnumbered us at first, but then it evened out. There were a few Low Red Moon members there, both 60, causing serious trouble for the alliance. It was fun, and made me want to level even more. A lot of the annoyances of town raiding are specifically changed in battlegrounds, like the respawn style. Running back to your corpse only to find the front has moved past it, and respawning among 15 horde members is almost as sad as it is hilarious.

anyways, i had a great time.

Oceans Andrew

my scarlet crusade troll mage is named escad, he's level 6.

gaara: nice work dude, priests completely PWN mages; it's like they can't even hurt you. the gap gets even wider as you gain more skills, like silence. i've never lost a fight against a mage, and i never plan to. silence is sweet when you let them cast for a little bit, and *then* silence them. not only is it effective, it anihilates morale, especially when your shadow word:pain keeps sucking them dry.

basically vs mages, you have 2 free spell interrupts, fear and silence, and if you time it right, you'll get a second fear (if they even live that long). combine that with shield, and a DOT that takes their already low HP down, and it's over.
Having mana burn is just overkill.

Haha, okay best in game moment so far. We're sitting on my boat in menethil having a guild meeting. We're just wrapping things up getting ready to go and someone starts shouting that a horde raid is on their way to hit menethil. It was even funnier because right at the beginning of the meeting someone looked around at all the high levels and said "Wow. Anyone who tries to raid this place tonight is going to be really sorry." So we all flagged up and destroyed them! Their raid lasted about 2 minutes. They tried again, but were even less successful and they just left. It was hilarious.

Snowfox: Next time you're online look for either Opeth or I to get an invite to the guild (providing that there's a guild member online that can add you). And just to fill you in on a few points of the guild meeting last night... So far we're one of the strongest alliance guilds because we havn't crumpled yet. Some big guild have fallen apart over the past few weeks. But we're not about all that pansy church and state BS anymore. We're going to be 'rebels' and sign a treaty with the wildhammers (I think that's what they're called... up in the hinterlands). Fane just wants everyone to level hardcore and put together an awesome guild (unlike the Silver Dragon) so that we can raid more and be more of a voice. There's a rogue in our guild who's wearing 90% blue items right now because she's been raiding BRS non-stop since she hit 60.

Also, I know Cinther from our guild IRL (as well as about 6-7 others) and we're HUGE shit disturbers. We actually got in trouble one day last week for it. It was hilarious. On the horde server, he, OA and I are going to make our trolls siblings so they can stir up things together.

i had a pretty good leveling weekend, 2 levels, not bad at all.
i've got a decent bit of advice for shadow priests, i'll be writing up something so i can cut and paste it for future guild priests.
i'm finally getting to the point where i just meet people and they buddylist me, since priests are so rare at this level.
i met a few guys who want to powerlevel with me, and since that's the new goal of the wolves, i'm game. I hope to get 2 levels every 5 days.

I know someone who got to 60 in 15 days. Talk about no life.

Meth
02-28-2005, 07:24 AM
It's impossible for one person to get to 60 in 15 days. It would have to be at least 2 people playing the same character in shifts, 24 hours/day. Even if they knew exactly how to complete every quest, where to go for everything etc, they would at least need help time to time from other players for instances (where a large bulk of XP can be made quickly) and elite quests, and finding parties in game isn't exactly the easiest thing to do sometimes, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was 4 people playing 2 characters to power level. I'm not saying impossible to get to 60 in 2 weeks because my GL has seen it happen... Just impossible for 1 person.

Phantom: I have a huge deadline right now which is why I havn't been on. Also, our GL wants our Alliance guild to try to power level and get everyone up to 60. He's been 60 for a while now, and he'd rather raid with the guild than raid with others (especially after being called a loot hog the other day, and that's the absolute last thing in the world he is. My rogue is half outfitted thanks to him, and I can't recall the number of times he's slipped some extra gold my way when I needed it.)

i heard bout the powerleveling story too, though it was actually done in 3 days, and the character was a mage.

multiple players playing the account

quest/grind locations scheduled ahead of time

multiple high level priests healing every step of the way.

elite gear set aside from guild members for use from level 10-60, delivered to the grinder when needed.

so yeah, you can powerlevel like mad in warcraft, but it takes so much planning, and an entire guild who are dedicated to leveling a single character for one day, that it's not even worth it.

brain eating zombie: from what i've seen, the warcraft bots are pretty unrelible and get banned very quickly. When i first started, i saw several, but after the first week, they all disappeared. I'm not saying they don't exist, but i havn't seen a bot in 2.5 months.

Aires:
the game is a lot of fun. it's $50, which includes the first month, and is $15 each month afterwards. You can pay for it by credit card, or by buying game time cards.
it's a lot of fun for loners, both meth and i do most of our playing solo.
the best servers are the low population ones. SOme of the super populated servers have login issues because of too many people trying to squeeze into them, but the server a lot of us are on doesnt really have these problems.
there is a problem with pking if you decide to go on a pk server. otherwise, you only fight other players when you turn your pvp flag on.

Maybe they just got better. It's usually really hard to tell the difference between a good bot and a player.

Meth: Your GL sounds like a pretty damn good guy.

Man.. I was kind of holding out for getting an invite to your guild one day, but I've been questing and helping out a few people over the weekend and they've asked me to join theirs. They're all pretty cool folk, too, and I don't know what to do. :crying:

OH MY..
New Scarlet Crusade realm--

Grimshaw: Orc Hunter

Woot.

His name is wrong.. It's GRIMSHARD. Man, I was so tired when I wrote that, but I just fixed it. :ohno: X 3

Phantom: If you find a good guild, I say go with it. We're not playing very much on the horde side just yet, and then there would at least be some sort of alliance between 2 guilds.

As far as bots go, well Blizzard seems to be on the ball where that's concerned, and as well they should be. Fane was telling me about some of the bots and it's crazy. Increase in speed time by like 10 fold so that by the time the creture gets around to hitting you it's already dead. Casters wouldn't even get a chance to get a spell in. Think of a duel dagger rogue with a speed bot?

OA: Remember that night after the patch when Gaets was acting all wonko and moving at the speed of light? I imagine that's what the speed hacks must be like because I was hitting twice as fast as normal. It was kind of fun, and then recorrected itself the next day. :( I should have just never logged and spent the day grinding instead.

Mm.. yes, thanks for the advice--I'll go ahead and hook up with those other guys. It makes sense after all, now that I think about it. Besides, when you guys to get more active, Grimshard will be there to help out of he can.

Meth: Thanks for getting me in on that raid. (How'd I do anyway? I'd hope the Hunter's Marks on my wolf and the repeated attention from a few particular few angsty Alliance was a good thing..) Had to be one of the most fun times I've had since starting WoW. ..That and whever I go back to bosses that used to terrorize me and one-hit kill them. Good times. You'll have to drop a tell when the next one is scheduled.

i just reached lvl 30 with my Feathermoon druid and i don't want to switch servers again -_-

Meth

Phantom: Yeah, you did good! Best thing for you to do is to use your hunter's mark on the rogues so that they can't stealth.

Hidro: No, we're going to play both servers. I need to power level my rogue to 60 asap because Fane has some plans over there. It's just nice to get away from the damn soap opera that Shirk and Row put on on a daily basis. The Young and the Restless called and they want their drama back.

Hidro, you punk! Join Scarlet Crusade! Its still a great time to kick it up with a new character and not be miles behind everybody else. Besides, if last night was any indication, you Storm Wolves know how to throw a party allright, hehe. Admit it.. you want to crush some puny humans.. Now come on, mate, once you try Horde, you never go back!

So your avie cant switch servers am I right?

Meth
03-01-2005, 01:36 PM
Aires, you're missing out on ALL the fun I tell ya. And no, you can't switch your character from servers. Blizzard was thinking about it to fix some of the lag problems, but I don't think they'll ever really allow that. So to sum it up, we're playing Horde on Scarlet Crusade, and Alliance on Feathermoon.

Phantom: Yeah, the raid was a lot of fun. The Wolves are all about the fun.

Aw man.. RP realm has turned me into a PvP monster. When I wouldn't bother risking my neck before, staying in character really gets me pumped up and I race off to challenge any invaders. Wow..I killed so many people last night, I wonder if I should feel guilty about it.. nah. Alliance come to Horde turf and flag, they will be punished.

One was a 21 seasons Night Elf hunter who decided to attack Camp Narache. I had a 1-1 record with him, but he decided to cover his losses and take off it seems when more Horde filled in and it was evident that every young Tuaren in the camp was willing to shoo him out.

The second came when a group of Alliance massed outside Crossroads. Many Horde appeared to defend their land, and in the end we utterly destroyed them. I had a hand in many deaths, but I manged to take down a priest, a warrior, a mage, and a PALLADIN, almost entirely myself. (A Pally 4 seasons above me, I might add.. /cackle). My wolf had a lot of Alliance blood to quench his lust--after all, it is his land as well--but many more were not satisfied with solely defending and a crude raid was constructed. In the interest of backing up my guild members and protecting a few less-experienced Horde, I said sure, why not.

After running around Ashenvale and realizing the raid leader was lost and the bulk of us had no idea where we were going, we hearthstoned home when we ran into some really, really angry elf NPCs and a.. really big-assed guardian tree-thing that wanted us gone as well. Live and learn. Besides, Durotar was under attack now..

Collecting the majority of our numbers (like 2 more people than the raid Meth got me in on the other night) we raced to Razor Hill were the bulk of the action was taking place. A short while later, I got a nice screen shot of all the Alliance skeletons. Good times.

A few Alliance decided to stick around, and after dispatching another mage, I tired of their lemming like tactics and fell back to watch from a distance, sitting on a rock with my wolf beside me. The odds just didn't seem fair, even with their 31 seasons mage standing there like the arrogant twit he is. (Not only did he, as the invader, stand there and laugh at us while his flag was down, but he dueled one of our stronger allies and won, but used the safety he had to that point to instantly flag up, kill the winded Horde, then escape.) Cowards.

I had all but lost interest. There was only one Alliance left now, an unflagged young mage who just stood there. The antics of my Horde brethern were a bit uncivil, I admit, what with all the clucking like chickens and poking her. Some people in General were complaining about our lack of honor because we had been outnumbering the invaders for a while. Fancy that since they did NOTHING when their homeland was attacked, but feel compelled to talk about us. What they could not see, were people respectfully leaving the scene and others falling back to maintain their own honor. In the end, the remaining human was just bait and Alliance resurfaced in some remote part of the world on the opposite continent. I'm sure the Horde's experienced guards had fun.

Is anyone playing on the eu servers?
If you do, what server do you play on. I'm on skullcrusher and earthen ring. mostly skullcrusher though, with a gnomish mage caller Elina.

Well, horde is all over really. Orcs, trolls, and Tauren start in Kalimdor. From Teldrassil, you'd have to take the boat to Auberdine, then run south into Ashenvale through the town of Astranaar... Continue east and there will be a path heading south that'll take you into the barrens which is horde territory. The undead are on the other continent though. They're way up north past the human and dwarf lands. But, you're not going to want to just stroll into horde territory. The local defense will start to light up...

"OMG! lv20 NE hunter in the barrens just N of XR you guys!"
"Is he flagged?"
"No."
"Well then, you keep watching him and let us know when he does."
