Ok, Phoenix asked if I could shed some light on lightsabers, so here goes:
1) Start with your image

2) Use the line tool to highlight the "blades" don't worry if they aren't perfect, you can fix them later.

3a) Next, apply and outglow from the "Layer" menu

3b) Remember that these aren't set in stone, and you can readjust the glows at anytime you need by double clicking the f next to the layer you are on.

4) Once you have the glow set, duplicate the layer

5) I always toy with the glows for both saber layers until I get something I like. But as a rule of thumb, try to make one glow with a large SPREAD and small SIZE and the other layer should be the opposite. This will produce an effect that will give the saber color, and also give it glow.
6) Now is the time to clean up the blade and make sure it is the right size. Once you have something you like, apply a blur filter to both layers. That is pretty much the final step, so use those techniques for other things, I finished mace's blade and gave Lucas some glowing power hands, cuz he's a tyrant!

7) Dont forget the LensFlare for the clash of sabers!

NOTE If your background is really light, or white, set the outerglow layer filter BLEND MODE to NORMAL rather than SCREEN and do the usual tweaking.
