Anyone see it? I saw it twice already, kickass movie! The plot got a little...goofy near the end, but it's a badass action movie, so what do you expect? :D

The soundtrack is awesome too, and I just got it in the mail today! My favorite track is "Burns Attack" by Paul Oakenfold. Good stuff.

Anyway, discuss!

i have the first two dvds and the first book of appleseed...

i've already seen this trailer and im not too sure what to think of the extreme change of style...

compared with the classic manga style i prefer the original episodes, but that wont stop me watching this film...

unfortunately living on this island means i wont be able to get this in shops for a decade...

sigh

I'm an Appleseed (and general Shirow) fan, and believe me, the movie does the series justice.

If you can't get your hands on the movie any time soon, you could always...."borrow" it from the internet... : :unibrow:

have you got the books...

i can only get the first two here for a lot of money....

but shirow is amazing, but is too mainstream for some people, dismissing it as "posers" anime...

I've got all 4 books, they're great. Personally, I like Shirow's artstyle "back in the day", then now. I mean, before he actually had some sort of respect for the female figure, now he's turned into some hentai freak. Seriously.

*cough*GalhoundExonDepotJapanesequeJashinHunter*co ugh*

Getting back to the original topic, I've only seen bits and peices of the new CG movie after the first 20 or 30 minutes. I've only seen snippets of the previous animated cartoon movies before that, and I kinda lost interest because of the really bad scoring. The CG movie is pretty well put together visually speaking, but the way the story was culled together left me disappointed. I'll stick to the book, but I do hope everyone else sees the movie themselves before making their own opinion of it, if it's of interest to them to see it at all.

Yes, the plot to the CG movie seems to get a little iffy near the end, but aside from that it is an extremely entertaining film. I mean, did you really watch Terminator 2 or Predator 2 for the plot? :D

You should see the whole film, first. You might appreciate it more.

Yea, I figure this is old, but I never saw T2 or Predator 2 for some endearing plot. I mean, if you saw the first ones you know it's going to be a series of spontaneous explosions and random dispensation of death for the characters there in. Thing is, for me, when it comes to following Shirows stuff, his stories are more interesting than the art he uses to convey them.

For example, I never followed Tank Police for the art, but for the hilarious situations the Tank Police were put in, and it never got too serious too fast. However with this movie, there wasn't really anything for me to feel the same thing for it, as I did for the Appleseed stories, because they usually went down in similar fashion. You've got a few seconds of action, and then you've got a serious thing go down, and it's topped off or finished with a joke. Aside for the characters and whatnot, the story seemed to be seriously devoid of any Shirow influence, so given my basis for seeing the movie was off my following of the books, I felt let down.

The new graphics are the backbone of the film. Without them, the film would have been pretty standard.

Just finished watching the movie. The action is spectacular to behold, thanks to great graphics, design and camera angles. However the story really is abit shallow. Kinda cliche aswell. Ah well, its still an awesome movie. Ive never made that much screencaps in any movie.

So does that mean it's still out in theaters? Or on video?

Are there really people who call other people who watch certain kinds of anime "posers" ? Hah, I would certainly have to laugh at that person... alot.

Other than that, Shirow is THE master, imho. I have like, so much Shirow stuff in my house its not even funny. I could understand why any one of these posers would choose Shirow ;)

As for Appleseed 2004, I thought the action was great. keeps you on edge, and the storyline isn't so shallow that you wouldnt wanna watch it.

The way I see it, Shirow really loves his CG, and just wanted to try it out on a full length feature.

If you look at Ghost In The Shell 2: Man-Machine Interface (the Dark Horse 11 part comic book series), you see alot of the same style you see in Appleseed 2k4, and in Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence.

I would expect alot more of this style to come from Shirow in the future.
