Traditionally, we have had contests around Halloween and Christmas/New Year. But don't let that stop you from coming up with something for Yom Kippur or Mid-Autumn holiday or something =D if we decide to hold a contest around the time of a holiday, ideas posted here will be considered.
if you've got ideas that are more general, please continue to use this thread:

pulled from the general idea thread:
Well since the next month we do a contest might be October, and I know the theme has been used before, but it's good, so how about something Halloween/monster related? Like design a Godzilla type monster. Or create a slasher film bad guy.
We could have a contest where each participant is randomly assigned a stereotypical Halloween themed noun (ie: pumpkin, witch, zombie, etc) and then has to make a Halloween themed illustration based off it. It could be an interesting exercise in avoiding blatant clichés when it's hard to get away from it. But it also offers some fun freedom :]
winter holidays are coming up...ideas:
--holiday special remake: something for the writers: take a common holiday special (e.g. how the grinch stole christmas, rudolph the red nosed reindeer), and re-write the story but still make your inspiration recognizable. the goal would be to create a summary of about 1 page in length. maybe as a collab, also include an illustration or a comic of a scene from your remade story.
--the weather outside is frightful: environment study, depict some extreme weather conditions(blizzard, torrential rains, sandstorm). maybe even extend this to fictional conditions.

Holiday-themed...
It's a bit late, but Michaelmas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michaelmas) (29 Sept) is the Feast of Michael the Archangel, or if you're Anglican it's the Feast of the Archangels.
So: Draw a scene that depicts how an archangel (or four) would go about feasting.
And imagine the hilarity that could ensue if someone ordered wings.

I still think my spinoff idea is worth a try
Seen this today: http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi1982242329

The task would be to put an element already existing in pop culture into a new, exotic enviroment. This can be a character (or set of characters), a location, an item, juxtaposition of atmosphere/context or a combination of the aforementioned.
Alternatively the topic may encompass the events in the original story from a new point of view ("Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosencrantz_and_Guildenstern_Are_Dead)) or changing a crucial point in the development of the original story.
This isn't depicting a spinoff that already is in existence, but coming up with a completely new concept.

To be honest I didn't really imagine it to be holiday themed, but it may work just fine.

"Worst christmas gift"
Depict a horrible christmas gift. Pretty simple and open to a lot of interpertation.
Holiday feast crossover. Depict a group of non related characters eating a holiday feast together.
For bonus points, decide on the characters at random.

I love Meatloaf's idea. It's open to any idea and is open to almost all kinds of chaos

I'm rather new here, but Meatloaf's idea does sound chaotically fun.
Personally I want to do this one. Either meatloafs idea or Prof. Az are really good ideas.

So, it's been decided that I really need to keep track of deadlines. Even if they are on the banner.
