I could never be as harcore as these guys. I'd much rather watch anime than read manga. I don't like having to buy lots of different volumes to get a whole series. Buying a whole anime series on dvd is much better. That's just me though.

If you must know though I have Cowboy Bebop 1 and 2, and Suikoden III 2 and 3. I thought the Cowboy Bebop ones sucked though. Not as good as the show.

I felt the same way not long ago, but I decided to give Love Hina a try(could end up beign my only manga)....besides since I, like a lot of people here, want to draw manga-style, it could be a good way to learn...plus the story is different than the anime, in this case anyway...
BTW I just started book 2, but I got 3 &4 already...

hmmmm... i only watch anime, no one near me sells mangas:crying:

But out of shows i like trigun, ghost in the shell, bubblegum crisis, evangelion, cowboy bebop, tenchi muyo. I like alot of movies to, i think i read this one manga about this little kid who goes around solving crimes??

did it come on adult swim a while ago? they stopped playing case closed now but u could still buy the anime or manga. i think it had pretty bad ratings.

i wish i had the extra cash to get some of the beserk series and samurai deeper kyo but the only place is samgoody and they are 9.99 + tax...ouch. so sad, manga in japan is only 300 yen. 3 bucks!

Bloodstar
04-12-2005, 12:39 PM
Sucks doesn't it? Its $10 everywhere in the U.S. That's why I said I don't like comics or manga much. It's much better to watch it on tv for free, then buy the series on dvd after it comes out.

chain2treechick

10$ at borders, waldenbooks, dalton, and any other place i've ever been...sad...

Hmmm... don't read much Manga myself... but I am currently in the midst of Love Hina...

I've read Chobits...

I'm in the midst of Jeff Smith's Bone (best comic EVER!!!).

Other [western] comics I own would include Star Wars: Dark Empire, Tales of the Jedi: Dark Lords of the Sith, and Hopeless Savages (which is drawn in this odd manga/western style.. funky...).

Battousai
04-14-2005, 07:27 AM
from what i understand the translation is hell. and the new binding and contract discussions rack up the pricing....truly sad. i use to read western style comics but after the millenium, the artists just started to change their styles and writers seems to slack; such a shame.

hidro

Currently on the go:

Battousai
04-15-2005, 06:46 AM
is battle vixens any good, i noticed it was in romance of the three kingdoms style; considering the girl on one of the covers is holding Guan Yu's Black Dragon Scythe.
It looked like a older perverted type book but also looked like it could be funny. not dissing it or those that read it just calling it.

I'm a soppy bastard and I've just finished chobits, I was happy that it went deeper than the anime but I think they could have left some of the nude bits out. I also really liked Maison Ikkoku (I think I cocked up the spelling there :P) Rumiko Takahashi (and there?) is so cool.

Krieock
05-02-2005, 04:32 PM
Chobits had nudity in it? I thought that was a kiddy anime/manga rated like G or Y7??? I must be diluted.

Steasaurus
05-02-2005, 04:58 PM
chobits is OT Older Teen age 16+ there were boobs, ass, and strong language. There was also a lot of sexual suggestion all the way through... in fact most of the jokes were sexual.

chain2treechick
05-04-2005, 12:29 PM
ya, ur right about chobits. its been a long time since i read it and i think i just kinda forgot. i don't really know what clamp was going for with all that. maybe they were shallow enought to think that that's how u make a manga appealing to males...sigh..
but the overall storyline was so good.
the anime is rather rediculous in my opinion though i haven't finished it. seems like they took all the sexuality and awkwardness and put it all together as the focus of the storyline and left the bigger picture in the dust. *sigh* (again)
and krieock, i guess ur best bet now might be google or something. sry. or just try www.amazon.com. there's very little i can't find there (though imported stuff is rediculously overpriced) and if u order 25$ worth, u get free shipping! :)

DNangel is ok i guess. though, personally, i found then a bit hard to get too, and i haven't read them all. for being so popular though, i reallly didn't think they were all that awesome and i'm a big shojo/cute stories fan but whatever. maybe you'll like it.

btw, did anyone read that new tarot cafe that just recently came out? (tis just the first one). well i thought it was pretty incredible, and i put off buying it for so long. tisk tisk. too bad will be a while till the second one...

Well, initial D is about racing cars and smoking. Lol. I dunno what else to tell you, but the drawings of cars are insanely good, though the people suck, and the plot is a little blah. It's fun to read, though, kinda repetitive sometimes, but it definitely is interesting. (to me)

I was just looking through my local Joseph Beth (a big bookstore) and I found lots of graphic novels - but no mangas... Very sad :(
Is there any reason why I should read translated(can't read japanese, yet) mangas over graphic novels? Or vice versa? Or is there any difference at all?

The first volume of Kiyohiko Azuma's new manga Yotsuba&! is sheer brilliance.

He is the man responsible for the "new classic" Azumanga Daioh and he is very far from losing his touch. If anything, he does as good a job here as he does in Azumanga Daioh of displaying and celebrating the magical parts of everyday life. I love the heroine as well -- she is so innocent and cute that watching her interact with the world is very, very fulfilling.

it took me 2 months after it was released to get ahold of the last (7th me thinks) tokyo babylon, and it was absolutely incredible. i respect clamp so much more than i ever did now....that was just the most incredible ending. it changes the way I look at all the earlier books....wow...

the latest saiyuki was good. really good. i can't wait for reload.

does anyone have any thoughts on blade of the immortal? i just heard it was fantastic but after reading the first one, i have mixed feelings. just would love to hear some outside input.

can't wait for the next hana kimi. can't believe i was ever hesitent about that series. its so incredibly good.

can't wait for next fruits basket. that last one was kinda....plot-filled. ...for once. hehe ^-^ what do u think is hatori's "sinister" plan? ^-^. OOO!!! and the hat was yuki's?????? nooooooooooooooooo........

anyone know when that last hellsing is commin out???

can anyone say anything about clamp's X? or at least anything other than its great? i told myself i wouldn't start it until babylon was over and now that i want to, da store don't have it (da 1st one i mean)!!!...mumble. mumble....

anyone know absolutely anything about empire of midnight yet?

has anyone read clover? i never cared enough when borders was carrying it, but now that they haven't carried it for like 6 months or something rediculous i'm just dying to have it...thats pretty childish...sigh. i'm broke anyway...

woa, this was a long post sorry guys...

edit:
sry one more thing. bizenghast (sp?) looked interesting when i saw advertisements for it on tokyopop months ago and i think its coming out soon. any thoughts?

speaking of tokyopop, what's up with their takuhai magazine? its been months since they first started babbling about it and i'm kinda starting to doubt its existence...especially since they claim its free...must be some kinda catch...

edit:
gah! one more.
was reading some of my friend's older manga and kill me kiss me is incredibly good!. didn't end too solidly but ga-woon is really cool...

just kidding but really you must a ton of extra cash to but that many mangas...unless you findem cheeper...me $10 plus some taxes.

i finally got another getbacker vol.9...it was good

bought a new series and i am i tad skeptical. story is great but the art is a tad to much...arm of kannon. it really doesn't need that amount of nudity in it. anyone?

I'm reading: DBZ, Trigun Maximum, and Blade of the Immortal as quickly as they release them in graphic novel format, and I'm playing catchup on One Piece but not as quickly as I wish I could.

Blade of the Immortal is my favorite manga, and has been since I began reading it. I can't imagine everyone can stomach the violent and graphic nature of the story. If you found the first volume disturbing then you probably won't enjoy the rest as it gets much worse in some volumes. If you're worried about the story I can only say that it is very well written - the first volume barely hints at what's to come.

bersek!!! best manga ever.
Basilisk. Will maybe become my favorite manga but I've only read 2 volumes.
naruto. yeah, its actually really, really good
bleach. ----||----
Gantz. Its getting kind of boring now though...

Then there are tons of other stuff I follow but wouldn't really get sad if they ended.

woa. its been a while. jeez that last post of mine makes me sound like a fiend.
regarding blade, i read the english translation and i couldn't stand the chopping up the boxes so it could be read left to right. i just can't believe they would do that. i also just found it a little difficult to follow.

i guess i went a little overboard a few months ago with the spending too...believe me. it didn't last long. and i share back and forth with my friend who's a real fiend.

so anyway, any thoughts on Blame? I really thought the art was breathtaking, but it was hard for me to get into the storyline with so little dialogue. was definitely worth the buy tho, as it was about twice as thick as most graphic novels, and, again, the art was spectacular.

Right now my favourite would be Eden, is anyone else reading that ?
Or Zetman ?

Battousai : I've been told that get backers gets a little boring after the first few books. That the guys just keep going to missions and that the plot isn't really going anywhere. I wanted to start that one to because i liked the style of the drawings, the electricity effects and stuff... but then someone told me that i shouldn't.

They do continuously go on missons, but when they go to get I.L back they go into Ginji's old gang land where he used to be the Lightning Lord of the Volts. I like it alot really. The art is cool to, but I can never tell whom is who at the end with the editor notes. So confusing. The revival of this thread BEGINS!!

I don't find them useless, just confusing considering they are in Japanese culture; if you understand them they are rather humorous.

I've read Eden volumes 1-11 and Eden is now my favorite manga ever. Lucky for me manga aint that expensive here in belgium. For each volume it's like 6 to 7 euro. I buy it in french cos i can read french ( school is good for something). When i buy manga's from tokyopop or something the price easy lifts up to 11-13 euro. That's kinda the double. Anyway i'm reading now "short storys" by Hiroki Endo. and after that i'm gonna begin with the manga "planetes" Hiroki Endo is my fav manga artist that's for sure.

And the art that is in it is just the best i've ever seen in a manga, so much detail. Hiroki endo is crazy hehe

The level of details is just amazing, his landscapes and backgrounds in general are incredible, but he's not my favourite though. One problem i have with his art is that all his female characters look exactly the same =) sometimes i keep thinking "is that her ? oh yeah it is, i can recognize her hair color" =)
One thing he's just the best at is mech design, all the mech kinda things are so great, the exo skeleton things and the ones that look like spiders, i'm just a fan of those.

Wow, I'm definitely going to look into eden; it looks incredible.
fyi, the seventh hellsing just came out in english last month ^^, which is pretty exciting me thinks.
Dark Edge and Category:Freaks are also some good darkish manga.
And Wallflower's a real cutsie.

LET THE REVIVAL BEGIN!!!!!^_^

I'm just now getting back into manga, all I really read was Getbackers, up to 13. I also read all 7 volumes of Lamb of Lament, which is amazing and would definitely suggest it to anyone interested in intricatley plotted half/horror manga.

Just bought Jing the Bandit King: The Twilight Tales 1-3 (where I work they were having a buy 2 get one free deal; and on top of that I still got my 20% off discount...yay) It seems good, only read vol. 1 so far. The artwork greatly intrests me for some, internal reason....>?<

I've also read up to Peacemaker vol. 3 and it seems decent so far. Slow, but decent. I've also began reading a light manga called Tactics, which is decent as well.

BTW, is DeathNote any good?

Krasterk
03-26-2006, 11:58 PM
Yeah Lamb Of Lament was pretty good. Another completely sick horror manga i read some time ago was "Spiral" by Junji Ito. Only 3 volumes but what an insane ending...

I've read DeathNote #1 and #2, i really like the art, but the story, setting, etc, is not really my kind of thing so far. But i've learned not to judge a manga after only 2 or 3 volumes so i'll keep reading.

Other than that, new stuff i'm reading are Cafe Occult, Pilgrim Jägger and Demon King, all awesome.

Berserk, I'm currently on Volume 17, and have to say this is the best manga in existence.

I'm also re-reading Metropolitian (sp?), but that's an American Comic, heh ^_^

i'm reading bleach and OMG it friggin amazing. i got tired of the dumb filler in the anime so i started reading the manga and i was not disappointed.

i'm also reading Zettai Kareshi (absolute boyfriend). I already on novel 5 and i still don't know what to the think of it. I usually like watase's stuff, but this gets a little old after a while (probably because for once i prefer on of the underappreciated characters aka Soushi)

It's an oldy, but goody; and it's pretty cheap to get the whole series. I recommend Akira; I've got the Japanese version of the first book and I've only gotten around to reading about half of it. The series will definitely last you a good while, and it's one of the best out there, despite its age.

I went naruto crazy, boaught first 5, then read up to volume 22 online, ima read more alter tonight ^^.

anyway a few I'm up to date with are probably.

Guyver
Zero
Candidate for goddess
Kampai (this one is great)
I was with One Peice...but yeh.
Vampire Game(dont really like this one)

And others are just ones I touched and didn't get into, most of the time ull see kids reading manga on the floor, glued to the pages, ull see me picking books from the shelves, reading first chapter, make up my mind if I wanna spend 8 bucks, on about 20 books every time I go, alot of work, but I'm one picky bastard.

EDIT: And I've seen those Akira books, they are pretty big, I've looked at them litereally every time i go manga shopping (alot of times), but never really looked at em....don't know why

Not very many people have heard of it, but you must read vagabond. It is definitely one of the best ronin mangas around. The art is better than blade of the immortal, the story is very creative, and it has a much more berserk-realism feel than some other mangas. Truly a masterpiece.
