Toei Animation, Aniplex, and Cartoon Network, the new project will be tentatively titled "Demashitaa! Powerpuff Girls Z.

It looks like they want to reinvent Mcracken's cartoon series.

Craig McCracken is the creator of The PowerPuff Girls first done as a college project in 1992. Something like 3 years later Cartoon Network noticed it and gave it 2 pilots and finally made it into an official animated tv series in 1998.

Isn't Samurai Jack an original to the US?

Robosockmonkey
04-03-2005, 05:50 PM
Yes, Samurai Jack and The Powerpuff Girls are both origional cartoons from the US, and a funny thing about the Powerpuff Girls... Craig McCracken when he first thought it up wanted to make a cartoon that was just about three little girls theat would just severly beat up their enemies. He originally called it "The Kickass Girls" but changed it to The Powerpuff girls for obvious reasons (it' a kids show).

I thinks its pretty cool. The guy who did the manga obviously (well not really) but most likely had permission. And if not...its about time the Japanese stole somthing from the US.... :)

Powerpuff girls rocked. Until everyone started laughing at me and insulting me because I watched it. That terrible memory of my sister laughing her head off stomping out of the room, and my parents making weird faces at me after they made me announce it still sticks in my mind. Of course, I was 8 years old.

And I bet those pictures are fan art, I mean PPG anime?! Yeah, fan art. Really...really good...fan art.

And I bet those pictures are fan art, I mean PPG anime?! Yeah, fan art. Really...really good...fan art.

According to the Anime News Network, who are generally pretty reliable, this was announced at the Tokyo Animation Fair. I'd say it's genuine.

But yeah, they decided that since PPG is quite popular in Japan, why not do an anime?

I say, more power to them.

I've seen a fair amount of PPG fan art from the Japanese, but I didn't expect them to make their own series. Now they have weapons? That's gay. It's a comedy show, not an action series.

by Native Americans, to be exact.

KuranosukeOishi
04-09-2005, 05:39 PM
Well, the ancient Greeks played with them a few thousand years ago and the Chinese may have had them before that.

Yo-yos as we know them now came from the Phillipines. Whether they were developed from Chinese yo-yos or from local hunting weapons is unsure. The word yo-yo comes from the Tagalog language and means roughly "come come" or "come back".

It's also speculated that they may have develped elsewhere independently.

(Cannibalised from some various sources on the web.)

A yo-yo cannot be taken seriously as a weapon, especially one in an anime.

Seen Samurai Jack, didn't think it was anything special.

Ah, but, I never said you would like it. I said "IF" your interested ;) . Something must have piqued your curiosity if you visited the page to take a look.

I was interested in this, because the PPG is a guilty pleasure of mine, and I've always liked the anime fan art I've seen of it. But these weapons and shit and transformations are just gay--they totally undermine the fact that at PPG is a comedy, not costume heroine faggotry. The funniest part of the series was the fact that the PPG were often put into mediocre situations beneath their powers, along with the fact that they had no anonymity whatsoever. This whole transformation crap destroys that.

I'm so ******* waiting for them to use trading cards for powers, or some other mundane horseshit.

Yoyo as a weapon? Wikipedia seems to disagree.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoyo

KuranosukeOishi
04-10-2005, 07:35 PM
The problem with the Wikipedia is that it must eventually meet a happy medium between viewpoints.

There is the possibility, of course, that the Yo-yo was never used as a weapon, but there is also the possibility that it was.

Hiltz
04-10-2005, 08:44 PM
According to the merriam-webster online dictionary, the third meaning of a yo-yo is a stupid or foolish person.

A yo-yo? They could have gone with a slinky as a weapon.

Who walks the stairs without a care
It shoots so high in the sky.
Bounce up and down just like a clown.
Everyone knows its Slinky.

The best present yet to give or get
The kids will all want to try.
The hit of the day when you are ready to play
Everyone knows it's Slinky.

It Slinky, It’s Slinky
for fun the best of the toys
It Slinky, It’s Slinky
the favorite of girls and boys.

I guess it's the theme colors of each PPG and their noticable hair colors that help them remain as recognized characters no matter what art style they are used in.

On second thought, this I would think is going to be meant for children viewers so a yo-yo. It takes me a while to think things through sometimes . ;)

"Holy Whoopass Girls, Batman!"?

That can equally work just as well with the list of Robin's gayish sayings.

Cyangoose
04-16-2005, 07:54 AM
Hmm. According to the site, Demashita! Power Puff Girls Z is only an interum name. Guess it's not decided yet. The producer worked on Digimon. The director worked on Digimon and Yugioh and the character designer has done Cutey Honey F and Sailor Moon. Guess that's why they bear such a resemblence. -_-

What the hell is that supposed to mean? PowerPuff Girls, an American show, is really polular in Japan. So the Japanese decided to make an anime out of it. How is that America "crapping up Japan with a bunch of bull"?

WTF they got older, grew fingers, and threw away their awesome powers for yo-yos, plastic hammers, and bubbles? And yet the professor gets younger? I'm not a fan of ppg just that my little sister watches it. I think this will go nowhere in my opinion. Just looks so damned stupid. Japan is always great with coming up with great and imaginitive stuff on their own. Why steal something that already sucks?

And they better not make a japanese version of teen titans. Despite the fact it's on Cartoon Network, it's still a pretty good show :O. And they better not make a japanese version of their own adult swim :/ because I can't imagine a family guy in japanese because we all know japan isn't the greatest at translating our language :X

Somewhere on that "translated" page it said that Powerpuff Girls Z was a temporary title. Maybe I read it wrong.

Oh, nevermind, just let them keep the Z at the end of it. Then they could mesh DBZ and PPGZ together. That would be so awesomely pathetic! I'd watch an episode just to laugh my brains out.
