View Full Version : Badassest villain?

Very simple. I want to know who you consider to be the best villain in any manga, comic book, anime or other animated film. Please, don't just post a name, give your reasoning for thinking so, and also a screenshot or something could be nice since not everybody will be familiar with all villains. Keep it polite.

I'd like to nominate our beloved Legato Bluesummers of Trigun.
Reasons:
a) he's a subvillain who by far outclasses his boss (Knives) in sheer creepy awesomeness.
b) his singleminded determination to cause pain (I mean come on, he gives his life for 'the cause')
c) his copious use of innocent (and not so innocent) bystanders
d) even though he's as cruel and ruthless as any he manages a fair degree of personality and class.
bonus points for carrying that piece of iron fence on his shoulder.

Come on, we all know him, Bowser. Offa mario!

Reasons:
One: although simple in plans(capture peach!) he is Bad cause he is just plain annoying. Comin back everytime when mario finaly gets to relax! That must be his master plan . . . to disrupt Mario's relaxation time . . . aha!
two: He's got 100000000 minions and don't know howto use em. He'd be more bad@$$ if he would just order the takeover of Mushroom kindom. They got like what, 30 troops? lol and mario
three: he, although tries, to be mean, grouchy and somewhat cruel. He's funny. You don't see tomany supervillains who can make you laugh and kill you at the same time with outstanding HP!(Papermario TYD)

Vava over and out

I vote Exar Kun from the Star Wars Saga (specifically, Tales of the Jedi: Dark Lords of the Sith, TotJ: The Sith War, and the Jedi Academy novels). I mean, IMO, he's the most badass Sith lord EVER. He starts the Sith War 4000 years before the birth of the Skywalker twins and that nearly topples the republic! Then, 4000+ years later, he returns in spirit form to wreak havoc on Luke's Jedi Academy!
EDIT: Also, he was the first to use a double-bladed lightsabre!
http://www.loresdelsith.net/universo/fuerza/sith/bin/exarkun.jpg

In second I vote The Lord of The Locust and henchman, The Hooded One, from Jeff Smith's Bone. They just rock... I'm not telling any more, you need to go read the comic.

I thought this was an anime/manga discussion...
And! you guys are thinking too hard. I mean think simple....the three top villains' thoughts/actions:
1. Wants to take over the universe.
2. Kills for no reason.
3. Chuckles "hehehe" way too much.

What's a villain that matches that description? Any one from dragonball!!!!

Hm, freeza is too wierd.
Cell is too civilized.
So, I'd say Baby, from GT.

Baby takes the cake!

Most badass villain is clearly Agent Smith. Hugo Weaving made the whole Trilogy worth watching, which says a whole damn lot about Smith and Weaving's acting.

Aside from that I'd have to say Darth Vader, simply cause he's the original bad motha in black.

Oh, and this thingy from the "Wishsong of Shannara", by Terry Brooks. Forget what it was called, but the more damage it sustained the stronger it got. Thought that was the ultimate formula for baddassery.

Zex Marquis

1. Looks good in red
2.Pilots a Gundam Killer
3.Fallen Royalty
4.A Villan with a cuase
5.Just complex.

Seriously, hes the only villian I will ever root for in the gundam series

Vicious - Spike Spiel's former partner of the Red Dragon Syndicate from Cowboy Bebop

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/Hiltz/vicious03.jpg

- He's a realistic villain - not having the idea of destroying/taking over the world
- He killed some of Spike's former friends like Mau and that fat woman
- He seperates his friends (Spike & Julia) and eventually has them killed
- Vicious wants to run the Red Dragon syndicate and he finally is able to do it
- Vicious is a criminal and is involved in the illegal "Red Eye" drug smuggling business
- Vicious kidnapped Faye Valentine
- Vicious and his group killed the former Red Dragon syndicate leaders
- His only weapon was a katana and his cold demeanor
- Vicious is refered to as a "snake" by the former red Dragon syndicate leaders
-Vicious is a traitor
- Vicious mocks Spike when he had the chance to kill him but instead had him shot with a tranquilizer dart
- He ruined Spike's romantic life with Julia
-Vicious wanted Julia to kill off Spike
- What better and most surprising way to end the series by having the main villain and most importantly main good guy kill off each other in a final show down?

Idiots.
The obvious answer here is Victor Von Doom.

Not only is he one of the toughest assholes ever, he's a super genius who built a nearly invincible flying robot battlesuit that shoots deathrays from it's hands and has all kinds of built in gizmos.
He feels it's his DUTY to rule the world, as all other humans are to pathetic to be able to rule well.

Also, he killed the tyranical ruler of his home country of Latveria and freed his gipsy people, and became ruler of Latveria in the process (he turns it into a peacefull paradise through his just lawmaking and harsh enforcement)

Oh yeah. He's a wizard too.

sesshomaru from inu-yasha, there are others but this is the baddest of the baddest i can think of right now.

1. he'd kill anyone for his own reasons and not help people unless it had to do with his one disire which isn't ruling the world, it's to be the greatest demon and the most powerful demon ever.

2. he got complete control over his emotions basically

3. he's demon

They don't have to be Japanese comics do they..? Cause I'd say its the Joker. Hands down. He is hilarious and full of life, yet somehow ominous and spooky... I like the fact that he almost can't stop smiling, even when he's getting his arse beat by Batman he's grinning. And Harley Quinn. Need I say more? When they were animated they brung them to life so well that I really could get into the fights between Batman and Joker. Have you seen the flashback scene from Return of the Joker, the best animated Batman movie ever made? He was crazy. If he was real, of course, I'd be terrified of him, but as long as he sticks to ink I am a devoted fan...

Manga and Anime... I don't know, really. I don't watch or read Japanese stuff as much as most people on anime forums. I just like the style.

I'd say Scarecrow is better than the Joker (theoretically). There is something really creepy about his concept, not so much about the exectution though. If they were serious, the Scarecrow would be the coolest villain hands down.

Bane is pretty cool too! >.>

I liked Folken from Escaflowne. Although he wasn´t a complete badguy, he still gave it a good shot with his aim to capture escaflowne and seemingly reluctancy to stop Dillandeu every time he tried to kill Van.

pofo
04-14-2005, 08:57 AM
I was always fond of Folken *glances to avatar* much better king material than Van if you ask me. He's got vision, brains and style and always keeps his cool while Van's only got angst, anger, indecision and sleeveless shirts. I don't consider him so much a villain as a tragic hero though he gets a major villainy bonus for burning his home country. Bit much on the goth end of things.

Le Crusei. From Gundam Seed.

Besides being a bad ass pilot. Hes a cold calculating bastard under the guys of an aloof commander (warm, accomindating)

Not to mention the fact that he's borderline on the mental stability area

I don't really think of Rau Le Cleuse as a major villain. Sure he gave some major help here and there to bring the war to it's ultimate climax, but it was always Blue Cosmos and Patric Zahla who was the fanatical war mongers.

Lucifer is by far the most bad-ass of all villains. He even gets his own graphic novel spin off series.
Now as for the reasons for being bad-ass,

He actually creates a universe of his own, an actual galaxy and planets and life and all that.
Is the most powerfull being of everything (same universe as batman and superman for example, but also more powerfull than other gods from other pantheons, probably even stronger than death, since he's more powerfull than destiny or dream) other than his father, the god of the covenant.
And he's always the smooth operator, being one step ahead of the rest.
He has his own classy studio, in the middle of LA, where he plays the piano and tells people fortunes they don't want to know. And when he does interact with humans, he never lies and always keeps his word, but interprets it in such a way that pretty much always, people get out of the deal worse than before.

FigureFour
04-17-2005, 07:13 PM
I have to agree with you there.
But he was much better in Sandman then in his spin off (But that makes sense, who can compete with Gaiman?).

The problem is, I have a hard time calling him a Villain.
In fact, I think I tried (clumsily) to raise the same point when the Corinthian was mentioned. Sandman really doesn't have any villains.

Block Heads - Gumby

I don't know about you but as a child watching the Gumby cartoon series these twin blockhead brothers scared the crap out of me with their angry faces and violent obessions to hurt Gumby and his friend Pokey, those clay bastards.

Trevor GoodChild - Aeon Flux
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/Hiltz/trevor_sm.jpg

The dude is a total freak. He's a dictator and controls a whole city or country or something but the point is within his controlled area he dominates it like a god and has disturbing weaponry defense systems that can cut off your limbs among other body parts and inject you with needles with god knows what they are filled up with. Trevor has several sexual and disturbing fetishes, he's a distinguished pyschopath, backstabber, and has a thing for bondage and foreplay with the one and only Ms. Aeon Flux.

04-17-2005, 10:35 PM
If the villain has no depth to himself/herself then I have no feeling for the villain, simple as that.

Killing a lot of people is cool in all but it doesn't do much in the way of bringing out the true evil nature of a villain when there isn't really much to know about them personally.

Naturally, if the viewer/reader can't relate to the character then there's nothing there to work with and sometimes getting know know them on an individual level can prove to make them even more sinister and haunting than the evil actions they perform.

I agree with Hiltz, a villain needs depth. The best villains in my opinion are ones where I can recognise part of myself. Taking the example of Legato again; on a purely intellectual level his goal (to kill all humans) is understandable. If there is such a thing as objective good, I'd say the world would probably be better off if there were no people around. But Legato takes this reasoning to heart and lets it affect him on an emotional level and that's what makes him scary.

Lexar
04-18-2005, 04:41 AM
Lucifer is only interested in his own cause, all his actions are about himself, he even shuts down hell because he doesn't feel like running it anymore, and he vows to kill the main character. As close as it'll ever get in that series to a villain.

Also, to be honest, I like the spin off series better. Less emphasis on all the other pantheons and creatures and closer to milton's paradise lost, with the war in heaven and all that. And also very well written.

I'm not too sure about this, but I think the hellblazer series are in the same universe as sandman, with constantine being in one of the books, and I think he's a bad guy over there.

FigureFour

All of DC's comics take place in the same universe.
So yes, Constantine faces off against the same Lucifer.
Well, not ALL of them. Hellblazer, Lucifer, and Swamp Thing are Vertigo titles and are part of the main DCU, but they don't usually interact too much. Most of the other Vertigo books are just self contained books (Y the Last Man, Preacher, etc).

Lucifer is definitely a part of it, since he was spun off of Sandman, and Sandman had a ton of appearances by regular DC characters. Constantine first appeared in Swamp Thing before it even became a Vertigo title, and back when they crossed over a lot more with the regular DCU characters. I've never read Hellblazer, so I don't know how they depict Lucifer and all that, but it's supposed to take place in the same universe.

As for Lucifer interacting with Constantine, I have read a fair amount of Hellblazer, and haven't seen the two come together yet (Although I'm sure it would be fun. Agony and Extacy definatly make an appearance, and I'm fairly sure Azazel or Baelzebub was there too.

I am so going to interject on downplaying le crusei. compared to the other warmongers in the series, he was the most dynamic.

Chairman zala's drive was revenge for the death of his wife, the other one just gave off as a superiority complex.

Crusei wasn't mentaly unstable, but he had an abstract veiw of humanity due to his background. He was created in an attempt to prolong his own father's life, a child of greed and fear of death.

He murdered his family in disgust.

He also had a drug dependincy which made him more real than the other cast. He was more than just the typical homicidal soldier. Thats why he is a notch above the rest including zex and viscious

But the joker always fails. Slade won. If slade wanted to he could have killed him but he did not want to. The Joker wants to kill batman and always has the chance but has to do a stupid showcased death and cant just beat the crap out of him like slade did.

Slade is cool.

Plus that's bunk to say that a villain needs the power of the universe itself in order to be recognized as a good antagonist.

As for Lucifer interacting with Constantine, I have read a fair amount of Hellblazer, and haven't seen the two come together yet
Well, Constantine was in some early issues of Lucifer, and he was also in Sandman, which has had quite a few regular DCU characters in it. Either way, it's pretty much established that they're in the same universe. Now, whether the writers pay much attention to that fact or not is another story. Considering what's happening in the Lucifer book, I'd say they follow that rule pretty loosely.

The Joker beat the original Robin to death with a crowbar.
Please don't tell me he's not badass.
He beat the second Robin to death. Dick Grayson had already become Nightwing when that happened.

And Deathstroke is pretty bad ass. Not being a huge DC reader, I've only really seen him in the comics once, but he almost took out like 6 or 7 members of the Justice League by himself. He only lost because someone STABBED HIM IN THE EYE with an arrow, and he freaked out. They stabbed him in his missing eye, but still... ouch.

Your math is correct, but you incorrectly assigned a value there.

Lucifer+Vegeta=Stupid as ****.

Besides, if they did fight, it would be very short. It has been explicitly stated that Lucifer (as seen in DC comics) is the second most powerfull being in existance. He chalanges and defeats gods. He has said that he could wipe out all the deamons in hell himself, likely without even expending any effort. It has also been explicitly stated that the most powerfull being in existance isn't Vegeta, in both Dragonball and in Lucifer's comics.

So not only are you bringing down an awesome character by comparing him to a shitty one, the shitty one can't even put up a fight.

Lexar
05-11-2005, 05:05 AM
No that's not entirely correct. In the dragonball universe, Vegeta is more powerfull than the respective lord of hell, dabura. In fact he is also more powerfull than the gods in his universe.

And lucifer lost to a deck of cards, and of course lost to michael, and had to trick an angel to win a duel, so he's not all that uberpowerfull when the right conditions are met.

I actually spent a long time debating how exactly a Doom vs Magneto series would go.

Obviously, Magneto has the edge to begin with, using his magnetic powers to manipulate Dooms suit (presuming it's magnetic) and using Doom as a puppet in his own schemes.

However, Doom is a brillient scientist, and a resourcefull bastard. It's only a matter of time before he secretly develops some bizarely improbable anti magnetic-field.

At that point, the shit goes down. Doom is of course PISSED, with a capital everything, and Magneto's throwing down, hurling cars and colapsing buildings at Doom. Of course Doom isn't going to stand for that, and he's countering left and right with energy blasts and his force field.

However, once Doom can't be directly affected by Magneto's powers, he definitly has the advantage. And it's only a matter of time . . .

Sorry about that rant, Doom and Magneto get me excited.

And yes. Please never use those smilies again.

Brain was a highly resourceful lab mouse. Although, I don't recall him ever successfully taking over the world so he is moderately evil.

Before each night is done
Their plan will be unfurled
By the dawning of the sun
They'll take over the world.

They're Pinky and The Brain
Yes, Pinky and The Brain
Their twilight campaign

To prove their mousey worth
They'll overthrow the Earth

Awesome, though indeed one of many probabilities.

I wouldn't even imagine him leaving Doom alive long enough to use him. Doom wouldn't last the initial attack to save his poor little gipsy people from the inevitable death Magnus would insure.

Though we may never know the true outcome until Marvel gets thier act together and asks me what I'd like to made into a Blockbuster movie.

Something they really should consider:
Wolverine/Punisher/Ghost Rider: Hearts of Darkness - this would make a badass movie.
Three badass heroes trying to take town Blackheart for spilling the blood of the innocent.

He supose to be depicted as a man skeleton, but as illustrated in the cartoon series he has flesh and muscle. Yeah that's right I said it, our little Skeletors got meat on his bone . . . uhh bones. Then again I'm not willing to look up his skirt to find out what he has or doesnt have. To me he's just a muscle body with a skull head thats unable to defeat HE-MAN who is really the MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE.

Skeletor's former name was Keldor.

In a battle against the King of Eternia, Keldor's face was badly thrashed and he seeked out the help of an evil mystical spirit that restored him from his weakened state but at a big sacrifice, the flesh of Keldor's head. Now Keldor's entire head shows his skull and he since took on the name of Skeletor, hence his skeletal appearence. The rest of his body is bone, muscle, and flesh.

Skeletor is the worst and most pathetic type of villain. He wants to rule over Eternia yet he failed in every single evil scheme he waged against the Eternia heroes. He tends to sit on his throne and bark orders at his minions who he treats like crap.

I would have to give my vote to Herr Starr from Preacher. He is completely malevolent, evil and uncaring. He'll kill anyone and sacrifice anything to accomplish his goals, and while most villans have some level where you can see hopes for things like redemption, or some sort of nobility behind their goals, any time it seems like that with Starr he manages to become even more insane and evil.

I can't get into too much else without worrying about giving away spoilers, but he is the perfect villian.

Unless you count the Saint of Killers, but he's not so much evil, as he is like death personified, but completely full of hate. The main point with him is that he could beat everyone mentioned in this thread at the same time singlehandedly. But I still see him as more of a force then a villian. So Starr still gets my vote.

Maybe not badass as in "I can blow you all away with a single shot from my ass", but I always liked the badguy Dr. Desty Nova from BattleAngel Alita. This dude has become immortal in the later stages of the comic, using nanobots to store his genetic information and memmories in the airmolecules around him so he can be restored if his body is killed.
He practices what he describes as "Conquering his karma" and to do so he take people apart in the most insane ways on operating tables with a big confident smile and put them back together with a big healthy dose of technology implemented if needed.
He himself is relativly physically weak, but he utilises a diverse group of minions, including cyborg ninjas, walking bombs and some lightly dressed femme fatales who is sure to entertain you in more than one way.
He himself uses some different kinds of pistols as well as using hacking traps to stop opponents himself.
Oddly enough, despite him being quite sick in a well-functioning way, he sometimes ends up as Alita's allie as well as her enemy since he is not the only enemy around and he usually has some kind of solution and/or explanation to every problem that could arise.

Sure he is a char to experience, although it takes some time before his char to become truly revealed in the series.
Reading BattleAngel Alita can only be recommended :D
