Yeah, I think it looks pretty good. It looks like a nicer version of the animation they were using for the most recent Spiderman cartoon (the one that was on MTV for a bit).

Appleseed has been about before. It's a masamune shirow anime the old one looked a little like dominion tank police, what with it being by masamune shirow (style's a nice thing to have).
You can get the old appleseed and dominion tank police in english through manga (the company) though I haven't actually seen appleseed because it never really caught my eye... I'll definately be on the lookout for this one and you can pretty much guarantee a western release with it being shirow and him being quite popular. Let's hope it's sooner rather than later.

I actually just got a torrent of this, so I'll probably try to download it soon. It is has cell shaded characters with cg'ed backgrounds to be specific with the whole 3D thing. The manga and origional cartoon are really old, I haven't seen either though.

Seen it. The graphics are definately awesome, the story though....Is a complete bunch of....crap. I'm very jealous of the company's 3D renderer.

That's sad to hear. I hate it when that happens. A movie looks awesome, looks like the story might be somewhat good and then you hear everyone dissing on it...and that is why wiggle never saw Riddick. :b

The problem with movies is that other's "IMO's" have little bearing. I have many movies and games that I love that everyone talks of how they hate it... as there are some that I hate that many love. The only time I take someone else's opinion seriously with entertainment is if I know that their "definition" of a godd movie coincides with mine. Besides, from others, I heard it was a good movie. :D Want to see it myself.

Don't get me wrong, i enjoyed the movie despite the story. There are some great scenes in it.

I'm only really intereseted in anime because to me it's eye candy... occasionally you get a good story as with live action movies but all anime (2d&3d) is beautiful to look at unlike most live action movies... sorry if it was old. I only seen them the other day, I never liked the original but shirow is usually kick ass etc.
A really nice person has stuck the first 10minutes of the film up (here on PK if you never noticed) and after watching it I don't need a plot ^_^ just a bucket for the drool.

I caught a preview of this and was similarily impressed... I'm actually pretty happy to see the cel-shading being utilized in 3D CG like this... I think often animators try to get photorealism from their CG and it usually doesn't blend at all, thus turning out as something like... well, crap.
I was wondering about the story myself since it's a shirow-sama production, but I never got into the orignal, so i doubt i'd know how to nitpick.
Looks pretty damn good, though.

The original lacked a lot of character and plot development...definitely not one of Shirow's more mature works. Whether or not that's true of this newer version, I'm not sure...but at least it's definitely nicer to look at.

Gasp! i havent watched or read appleseed in ages...

anyone who is interested in buying appleseed DVDs must know this...

the first dvd isnt the beginning of the story, it starts in the city, olympius or something and deunan and brariouduufonbfgfbnvnv (whatever his name is) are working with the police force.

i had no idea what was going on until i read the first book that explained everything...

i think ill go watch the DVD

shame the bad guy doesnt last very long, he never even gets to use his super cool detatchable limb weapons, what was up with that?!??1

unfortunately in adopting a normal lifestyle i've fallen back in my drawing technique as you'll see in my last submission...
