Yes, American Dad was a disappointment on Adult Swim and now it is still a disappointment on Fox Network. American Dad is a cheap spin-off of Family Guy in every aspect. So I ask, why Seth Macfarlane, why would you do such a stupid thing?

Did you notice that before Family Guy aired the Fox Network showed a tv warning sign for it! This is coming from Fox Network for crying out loud! Mind as well air a tv warning sign for the Simpsons while they are at it. :ugh:

Fox Network's "Animation Domination" is a load of crap. American Dad sucks and only Family Guy and the Simpsons rock. The only thing I give Fox Network credit for is allowing their own shows to make fun of the Fox Network like how the first new episode of Family Guy did, that was great.

The only good news is that new episodes of Family Guy are showing which is a great relief from watching the reruns of old episodes over and over and over again. :eek2:

i think the simpsons are running out of ideas...family guy was absolutly hilarious

"you know pinochio you may get away with it." disgusting but hilarious.

Hiltz
05-03-2005, 10:23 AM
Hehe, I see you also liked that parody with Pinochio. :D

Yeah, the 350th episode of the Simpsons wasn't really that good. Can't really blame them though, the Simpsons have done almost every idea imaginable already. To quote the kid from South Park,"Simpsons did it! Simpsons did it!"

Because Family Guy was CANCELED. He created American Dad as a way to keep doing family guy. That's why it's almost completly identical. Now that Family Guy is on the air again, I wouldn't be supprised if we never hear about American Dad again.

Hiltz
05-03-2005, 11:44 AM
Still, he should have none that it would have sucked because he himself incorporated everything that made Family guy successful and dumped it into American Dad. Did he not think that the viewers would have known it was going to be a cheap spin-off even if Family Guy were to remain canceled permantetly?

Yes, American Dad is too identical to Family Guy and that is main problem.

The title "American Dad" is way too similar to "Family Guy".
Seth does the voices of Stan "American Dad" and Peter "Family Guy".
The talking goldish with an accent is similar to Stewie.
The talking alien is similar to Brian.
"American Dad" also has one sister and one brother just like Meg and Chris.
The random humor is literally from Family Guy

Too identical indeed.

I don't know how idiotic shows like Super Milk Chan and Robot Chicken get on the air.

Robot chicken is really funny..... but Milk chan is a waste of time.

FigureFour

Hiltz, he created it because he wanted to keep doing Family Guy. American Dad is Family Guy. They are the same show.
The only reason he changed bits of it from Family Guy is because Fox owns the rights to produce Family Guy, so he can't make any more of it without their say so.

One the one hand, go Seth! On the other hand, I hope that American Dad sinks into the background and fades away.

FigureFour
05-03-2005, 12:30 PM
Well, like I said, since he's making Family Guy again, he doesn't really need another show that conceptualy resembles but is legaly distinct from it.

I only saw the pilot, and didn't like it nearly as much as Family Guy, but it was ONE episode.

There are analogous characters, but they are nothing like the characters in Family Guy. The goldfish and the alien slightly, but again, it was one episode, and they haven't had time to differentiate them yet. The sons are completely different, so are the daughters, and the dads are worlds apart.

Unfortunately, I missed Fox's Sunday lineup, so I missed the new episode of Family Guy. Hopefully, I can catch it.

I really disagree about that and Simpsons being the only good shows on, also. Sunday is nothing but good shows from Fox. It's pretty much the only thing I watch that airs on their network, it's like they save them all for one night.

I'm pretty sure Seth Macfarlane does Brian and American Dad, not Peter...the alien is peters voice.

Yeah. Arrested Development is one of the best written TV shows I have ever seen, and it is neither Family Guy nor The Simpsons.

Seth does the voices of Peter,Quagmire,Brian,Stewie, and Tom Tucker and various minor characters from Family Guy.

Funny how Roger the Alien acts just like Brian. They are both sarcastic, like to drink wine and smoke cigerattes. Ironically enough, Seth Macfarlene also does the voice of this character. Roger was saved by Stan similar to how Peter saved Brian from living on the streets. That may be going a bit far on my part but it is still an obvious similarity.

Steve's role as the son is more like Meg as the unpopular school kid who tries to act cool.

Klaus the goldish has the opposite role of Stewie and instead of being bent on killing Stan's wife Klaus is in love and keeping in mind that just like Stewie, Klaus has an accent.

I understand that the characters are different in their own right but the similarities are well too obvious.

My two curent favorite shows are House and Shield.

Alucard1515

The alien does not act just like Brian. He is sarcastic, but he's also whiny and effeminate, neither of which things apply to Brian.

The son is nothing like Meg, other than being unpopular, and that's stretching really far to claim similarites.

And like you said, McFarlane doing the voice doesn't have anything to do with it, considering he does half the voices on both shows anyway.

Klaus being the opposite of Stewie? Well, then he's NOT similar.

And again, it's been two episodes (assuming the one Sunday wasn't the pilot), so they haven't had enough time to differentiate.

But anyway, so as to not be entirely contrary, I love the Shield. Own the first 3 seasons on DVD. Also, Arrested Development is one of my favorite shows, and I just hope it comes back next season (I think I heard it is).

Hiltz

Brian is well-spoken and sarcastic. He and has a tendency to make sarcastic remarks mostly toward Stewie and Peter and Meg as well as to various minor characters.

Tonight's episode of the Shield was fantastic.

yes i agree...ad is very well written. but so is family guy...with all the parodies and all. i only wish it was out earlier so it could've made fun of other subjects as well.

I enjoyed American Dad, it made fun of the government more, while Family Guy more seems to mock society more.

I have a lot of problems with both, so I like to see them being made fun of. I don't really see them as being too similar, besides them both being made by the same guy.

This section should be renamed "General Comic/Animation Discussion" for acuracy's sake.

Yes, "Animation Domination" sucks.

Family Guy is the only reason I watch.

The Simpsons is still a great show but it feels like they are running out of ideas.

I haven't been able to get as much as a cheap laugh when watching American Dad. Everything the characters do that is supposed to be funny just feels forced and rushed and staged to get viewers to laugh even though it is the same humor of Family Guy. Maybe something is wrong with me.

The Bran Eating Zombie

It's a lot of political humor, so if you don't enjoy that you probably wouldn't like it.

I love all the shows on it, American Dad, Family Guy, Simpsons, King of the Hill, all awesome.

Hiltz

It's not like it is so political that you have to have a deep understanding of politics to get a cheap laugh out of the show. It's easy to understand but I just don't really think it is all that funny.

The daughter is a liberal and as a teenager she likes to be a rebel and Stan doesn't like her way of thinking. Stan is way too overprotective of her and uses his CIA connections like how the President would use his secret service to follow his daughter and make sure she is safe and all even if it means embarassing her in the process.

Stan rescued Roger the sarcastic alien and tells him to stay inside the house so he doesn't get recaptured. He does what he can to entertain himself while inside the house but it isn't a surprise that he would leave the house once and a while.

Stan is a dedicated and proud American father who shoots first and asks questions later. He wants to protect everyone from terrorist activity but he tends to over analyize situations

The wife is a former party girl who "supposedly" gave it up so she can take care of Stan for his ideal conservative family values. She tends to follow Stan's way of thinking but she does have a mind of her own.

The gold fish is just some failed CIA experiment gone wrong and the fish talks with a german accent who has a crush on the wife.

The son is a geek and a loser at school. He relies on taking drastic measures in order to make himself more popular and cool. Not surprisingly, the effects of his plans are usually temporary or end up backfiring on him.

It is relatively easy to understand each character's motives even if you don't know much about politics.

The last name of the family is "Smith" which happens to be one of if not the most popular American last name.

Not even 5 episodes in and fox is already screwing family guy a second time. Good job idiots. So thats 2 weeks they havent shown it, maybe theyll make it 3 and screw the ratings even more for when they actually bring it back.

American dad has funny jokes, but they arent delivered that well, so they usually fall flat. With family guy all the jokes are casual and unexpected, but with american dad they seem too in your face. They just need to calm down with the dads voice, its too extreme for me, in the rare times he isnt screaming the jokes can be pretty funny. I still like the show, but its not in the same league as family guy.
