whoa dude, it the image stretched? If it is dont do that. If it isn't . . . uhh sry.

Well, considering you didn't draw another DBZ character I commend you. This is a good start, I'm not sure what's happening on the sides of his head, but I'm sure when you detail it, it'll make sense. Soooo detail it now.

When you start emphasizing and shading, don't forget about distiguishing the light source. Good job, hope to see more.

when a pic or chara is too symetrical, does that mean that it ruins the pic or chara? not much to bother but just asking...i'm kinda intrigued...^^'

Is the hair to symertrical or the whole picure? The hair is symertrical because he has briads ( And in real life thry do this symertrical ,well atleast the people i know)

Don't worry, he means the picture. Btw, I can still see the erased part of the necklace. If you really can't erase it because it was too thick (always a pain) try removing it on the computer. You could do this with complex Photoshop things I don't know a damn about, but you can also cover it up with normal Microsoft Paint by copying a blank part of the drawing and pasting it. Little bit of tooling and noone should notice.

i dont need too. I am going to shade it

Fishlike Samurai

That's a solution too of course. But that only counts for the top line that goes into the new necklace.

I'm glad you fixed the nose a bit, you still need to reference it and the lips as well. I dont see man though, I see female.

Tips on shading:
Like I said, determine where the light source is and go from there. If the light source is on the left side of the face, darken everything to the right side. Start dark on the baseline and lighten up on the pencil as you get into revealing light. Try shining a light on you in fron of a mirror to better understand where to shade. It's good to reference everything when your learning to crawl.

thanks for the tips. I gave it a sex change and made it a female : )

The only thing that bothers me is that this picture just looks like every line was done with a ruler. Give it more curves, since she looks skinny maybe show some cheek bones. Also those are some stretchy ear lobes :p.

Good sketch though, necklace reminds me of akuma :O

this is like plastic surgery, it's a guy first, gets a nose job, eye jobs, lips reworked, and a whole sex change! :p lol

the left neck chain will not have much light on it and technicaly (though we cant see yet) his left earing will creat a shadow on his cheeck and maybe his neck (depending what diretion the light is coming from.

I reckon you deserve a pat on the back, being your first time i think its a good start, seeing as some of the artists are rather ruthless and not creative when someone is steeping out of the their comfort zone into something new. I thnk you have taken it well! the rendering looks good! keep going and post some more, by the way is this your first artistic attempt?

p.s only one thing bothers me....his lips... they seem a little cumbersome.

Since lips aren't flat I suggest you redraw the shadows on them, to that it curves... I agree with dante bout the lis being cumbersome, but this is a good drawing for a first try.

hey it has a nice qualtiy to it, not something you see everday! The onlything i thnk seems odd is his front neck chain ball it is so dark in comparison to the left sied perhaps darken the leftside up a bit (his right) good pic though !

Orobouros

You might want to try adding a little more variation in the shading of the face. The face isn't a round ball, which you did show with shading the nose and lips, however there are also the cheeks, eye sockets, chin, upper lip ridge things. most definitely a good start thought, keep it up!

Ah! Contrast! thats the word i'm looking for!

Unless the person has a very very flat nose (which is possible) there should be a shadow thrown from the bridge of the nose especially where it is close to the eyes. The hair seems very smooth and plastic, and doesn't seem to have much texture. Maybe do a suggestion of hair direction and indicating the braids somewhat. I like his expression and the over all construction is good.

Thanks for all your crits. I am going to keep them in mind when I start shading it , oops contrasting :)

imo, its too geometrically correct, it looks like a pattern more than a picture.

OniCloud
05-09-2005, 02:00 PM
Yeah, ditto to what jon said.

The shading of the hair bugs me, it looks like someone taped those hair shaped pieces onto her head. So I'd suggest to shade the head with the hair, not just the whole bunch of hair.

Think maybe there should be more darks around the upper eyes (where the brow curves into the eye socket). Unique character though, which is nice to see. ;)

I just realized her ears are rather small. It doesn't look so bad the way it is, but i think the ears, if looking at a face dead on, will usually have their top at the same level as the center of the eyes, and their bottom at the base of the nose.

It's coming along pretty nicely man. As stated before you need to varry the shading. It's really uniform like everything has the same depth, yeah, you have shading down for a ball, but people are really balls are they... ANyway keep it up you can only get better.

*note* I believe it is a guy. yes?

i gave it a sex change its a woman now.

Looks very good. The shading on the person's necklace is a little off.. the light is coming from the right, the necklace should have less highlight on the left (our left).

Is that hair draping behind the neck?

thanks for the crits. yeah the hair is behind
