Ok... so its not called budokai 4, its called DBZ Tenkaichi Budokai, but its basically budokai 4...anyway, I thought it was gonna be stupid cuz Its not a 2-D fighting game like DBZ Sagas(which was a disaster by the way), but after seeing the clips of it, I rreeeaaalllyyy wanna get it. Its better than sagas cuz sagas was basically a beat em up game from what ive heard and seen. DBZBT is actually a fighting game, but with a different perspective. You can fly anywhere at anytime, and you can actually miss this time! In the other budokai games, you either got hit, or just dodged it, but basically, if you stood where you were you would get hit, but in BT you actually have to aim a bit, or gun down your opponent with beams( or Ki as they call it,:ugh: i think...). its better than budokai 2 and 3. from what ive read theres a lot of dialogues and a deep storyline. budokai 3 made it seem like it was a big deal having 40 characters, but BT has 60! with some special characters that some people dont know about like Janemba.

I have this to say about all dbz video games.

All dbz-based video games are awesomely and horribly bad.

I always felt that if they are going to make a dbz-based fighting game then it should be like the appearence and fighting system of Marvel vs. Capcom. DBZ would have been perfect for it. Fast paced, anime, flashy and cool special movies, able to jump high and allow for some mid-air battles, tag teams and it has the animation style suitable for the dbz characters.

DBZ based video games like Super Sonic Warriors had a horrible plot setup. They tried to make a story out of a fighting game that didn't even include more popular characters. It was pathetic.

I can tell right away if a dbz game will suck or not. If it includes any characters from dbzgt then it will most definetly suck.

I'll still pray that this next dbz in line for a video game will be better than the others but it is doubtful that they will make any great improvements. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they will make small improvements here and there but nothing that will dramatically do anything to save the game from getting a relatively low score compared to it's previous titles.

The thing is there have been so many recent dbz games released for both home console and for gba yet it seems as if the creators aren't willing to put in the effort to make any dramatic improvements when it comes to such a big franchise as dbz.

I'll give the game credit for improving upon the atmosphere of the fighting but the fighting repetitivenes itself is notorious of dbz games.

Marvel vs EA (Or whatever the **** they are calling it) is going to be so bad, it won't even be funny.

It'll probably be almost as bad as a DBZ game.

All this game has to do in order to outbeat the previous titles is to get a score higher than 8. If this dbz game cannot get a score higher than 8 then maybe they should stop making dbz games all together or allow another company to try their luck at improving upon the image of DBZ games.

Gotta increase your power level man!!

hiltz you know perfectly well, to increase there power level it would take at least 5 installments as has been shown in the anime

The edit button is really awesome. You should try using it.

I'll wait till this comes out and if it gets good reviews I might rent it sometime. It does look the best out of all the DBZ games that have been made so far.

Lol, very funny Aires.

To be on the safe side I'd suggest two things when the game does come out but it's obvious you already figured it out.

1) Go to ign.com and look at what the review of the game, what its pros and cons where and what score did it get out of 10.

2) If your still interested in the game possibly rent it first.

I liked Budakai 1 and 2. The third didn't too much for me. It might as weel just been budakai 2 with just some extra fan made characters in there. I want free flight (which I hear they have this time) I want destroyable environments..I want chunks of the ground to rip up when you start powering up...

I want..I want....I want...

Budokai 3 did have free flight, but only to go up and down and back and forth whenever you want.

yeah but you cant go around your opponent... unless you just dodge around them. In Budokai Tenkaichi you can.

In a DBZ game, I don't want a traditional side scroll fighting game where you dont get much freedom and gameplay is repetitive. Here's what I think would be pretty cool:

Transportation: I like that whole "free flight" thing they tried in Budakai 3, but it didn't do much for me, it was kind of like an RPG game where you finally get a faster way of moving around from area to area, not much freedom. What we need when we get around is just like Budokai 3, but more freedom, be able to blast stuff, do tricks, have more fun in the air.

Combat: No more side scrolling fighting! In a DBZ game, fast paced fighting is essential with a vast variety of techniques you can use, yet fairly easy to get-the-hang-of controlls. The player should also be able to travel around the fighting area and use surroundings to their advantage, such as taking cover or blasting an object and throwing it at the enemy causing major damage!!!! I guess the default camera view would be behind the character the player would be controlling, and not to the side.

General Feel: Yeah, details are important. DBZ games have to be almost exactly like you see on TV to make them good. :) For example, ground crumbling when you power up, the sky darkening, lightning striking everywhere, heavy metal music, and smaller characters so the player can get the feel and excitement from their surroundings (that's why SSB melee was a hit). Also, debres from cities exploding, a longer lasting energy bar for more excitement, etc.

Oh yeah, better voice overs. Keep the screaming, but better voice overs. :D

You're basically describing Budokai 4(well...Budokai Tenkaichi) except maybe for the general feel. I dont know anythin about that yet.

Dont forget storylines with actual animated cutscenes like Budokai 1 instead of Budokai 2 and 3.

The game looks like it has far better than any other dbz game but in the end I think it will remain as dbz game with potential.

Izzy/K
05-20-2005, 06:58 PM
I think DBZ is one of those things where you can never reach full maximum potential for video games.... if that makes sense

Hiltz
05-20-2005, 09:06 PM
It is possible it can reach full potential but so far no one has been able to do it. Most DBZ games are mediocre at best in my opinion. I think gamers have been disappointed time and time again whenever a new dbz game is released.

DBZ has a distinguished art style, cast of likable heroes and villains, decent story, and it's all centered around supernatural martial arts which all makes for an ideal fighting game. It's just strange why video game companies have yet to successfully incorporate all of this into a video game.

DBZ games seem to suffer in graphics (3D),lasting appeal and most importantly repetitive gameplay (even for fighting games).

On the bright side this game can't do any worse than DBZ: Sagas.

Izzy/K
05-26-2005, 03:21 PM
Sagas was crap.... I knew it was gonna be crap before it ever came out, dbz was born to be a fighting game, not a.... adventure beat em up game thing......

I hope on the lookout tower board you get to fly off and go down and stuff, that would be great...

I hope it is a bit more free realmed....or at least give us the power to fly freely.

Ya know, they should make a DBZ game like Grand Theft Auto (mixed with) Fable. The combo's would have to be fast, and they would have to make a cool teleport (lighting speed) button.....Ooh and yeah, they need a character creater....and no more you have to be good. They should Allow the player to be bad.....and stuff...and like.....um...yeah.

Yup.

That would rock.

Thats when I would get a DBZ game....legitmatelly.:ugh:

:)

From what we've seen about this game they are making big improvements but the big concern is will it be enough to make this game good? Will the makers give a reason to disappoint gamers? Will part of the game be good while another part of it sucks? These are like the typical questions that plague all dbz games.

Izzy/K
05-28-2005, 10:40 AM
they're saying that story mode will be very..."different", and have a lot of dialogues. I sort of doubt that story mode will be good. Its probably gonna bring down the game... I know multiplayer will be fun, but im not sure about story mode. It kinda scares me....

Hiltz
05-28-2005, 10:51 AM
Hopefully, by "different" they mean better lol. I don't know why they are using dialouge instead of actual voices because most gamers just ignore the dialouge and get right to the fighting part. Dialouge in dbz games seem to be an inconvienence and a bad representation of the dbz story which doesn't say much.

There really is no excuse if this dbz game turns out to be bad. There have been many attempts at dbz games so there's a lot to learn from. Although, this gameplay will be different it shouldn't have to subject itself to major improvements if their is a sequel to this game. They need to get the gameplay right the first time and not in the sequel or somewhere else down the road.

Izzy/K
05-28-2005, 10:56 AM
nevertheless, Im buyin it cuz I have almost all dbz games from nintendo, to super nintendo, to gameboys, to ps2, and yes, even sagas...unfortunately. So if story mode is good or bag ill post it up since it doesnt seem like you guys will be buyin it...

The only actual dbz I temporarily enjoyed before it got extremely repetitive was this dbz rom game for the pc, don't remember the name of it. It was like some sort of rpg where you could fly around maps like earth and namek and the last boss was Frieza but there was a secret boss, Super Saiyan Vegeta. It was fun while it lasted.
