That's a pretty big list... what's left to suggest?
Edit:
Outlaw Star
Gundam Wing (the series)
Rurouni Kenshin (also called Samurai X)
Dragon Ball Z
Cowboy Bebop
Yu Yu Hakusho
Inuyasha
If you have Cartoon Network Paranoia Agent and S-CRY-ed are going to air tonight. I'm not sure if they are any good though.
What have you seen of Ghost in the Shell though? Have you just seen the movies or the anime series or what? Same goes for some others like Vampire Hunter D.
Hmm. I'll see if I can think of more.

There's only one thing to enjoy in DBZ: the fighting. That is, if you can or at least try to. The fighting is all the show has going for it because everything else about it is bad and just as repetitive. The story plot, the villains, the comedy and whatever else you can think of.

PARANOIA AGENT: Like this one alot. waiting for 4th volume. Its weird, but in an interesting, scratch your head, what the heck is going on way. In the 3rd DVD it was like all different episodes of a sci-fi tv episode. For the most part the episodes seem like self contained stories that tie into the main theme. And the humor is pretty high in the 3rd volume.
RAZEPHONE: Alot of people seem to compare this to Evangelion which i really cant argue too much but in my opinion it is better. It can seem really confusing if you dont watch it in order but it is a great watch if you can figure out the clues and what is going on. Also watch the movie when your done with the series that pretty much cleared everything up to me. This series also has my favorite lover death scene (those who seen it should know what im referring too :))
Now And Then Here And There. This one is great as a really serious anime. Its pretty brutal and deals with mature topics. Kept me on the edge of my seat past the first volumn.
Blue Gender: Cant remember if this is on your list or not but i liked this one for the sci fi theme. It was done really well and i think the series does a good job of making you care about the characters. The intro music was cool too and pretty much sets the mood for the anime.

We've had discussions on this several times and I recall you being a part of those. If you want to know, read the old threads. I'm also getting sick and tired of you doing this every time the show comes up. Speaking of Blue Gender, there is a difference between the series and the Blue Gender:The Warrior movie. The movie is an adaption based on the series but the big disappointment is that since the movie since the movie is 100 minutes long it excludes many scenes and newly introduced characters that would otherwise be found on Earth and on Second Earth. It's still good but obviously the series is much better.

There's only one thing to enjoy in DBZ: the fighting.
You mean the badly animated stock footage of charactes with blurring arms and legs standing (or better yet, hovering) next to each other?
Or the 20 mintue grunt fest before the next light show?
For a fight scene to be interesting it has to be well paced, good looking and creative. I have never seen ONE SCENE in a DBZ fight that had even one of those characteristics.

Thanks for the suggestions, next time I'm in HMV I'll look for some of these titles. From what I can see I should have plenty to keep me going for at least a good few months, if not longer.
By the way I've seen some of the Dragonball series and it's not too bad although the massively prolongued moves (i.e Kamehameha wave) make it farely comical at times, 'cause as they take the time to "power them up" the people they are fighting could beat them to a pulp, other than that I'd say it's not too bad a series to watch.
Thanks again!

bashing DBZ again are we . . .
o well, there are some things that I find funny or appealing.
Yamcha, is probably the best character created. He was a pimp. "wanna see my wolfs fang fist" is just stupid funny.
The warp kamehameha or however you spell that is kinda cool.
The fighting isnt spectacular but its alright. And it is what makes the show worth it.
Thier PS games would be worth it if the story mode wasnt exactly like the show. 1 and 3 are good, but 2 sucked.
Hiltz
05-31-2005, 09:33 AM
I do however, suggest that you stay away from most of the DBZ movies.
DBZ video games are possibly even worse than the DB GT series. Video game companies seem to think that since DBZ is so popular then they'll make a game out of it by just relying on a long list of selectable roster of dbz characters set in a poorly made game that begs to be improved upon. They figure, " Hey, kids will play this game because it has the dbz characters in it even if the game sucks". It's a plague on video games based on anime like DBZ and Rave Master and Zatch Bell and Pokemon and Yugioh.

Awww for the children. I've proudly invested 0 dollars on a DB game. We are on the subject of anime and anime in video games. Could someone list some video games based from anime. I remember when Ghost in the Shell came out for PS. I musta played that demo like 20 times. Sadly I never purchased the game.

I heard that that game mechanics are so incredibly bad it wasn't even worth renting.A shameful reputation to have with the Ghost in the Shell:STA tv series.
If you can watch Adult Swim then try watching the newest line up of anime shows on Saturday. s-Cry-ed, Samurai Champloo, Paranoia Agent , an d FLCL to see if you like it or not.
Speaking of s-Cry-ed, did anyone else notice that the name of Holy has been changed to Hold? What the heck is up with that? It sounds so out-of-place. s-Cry-ed is being shown on Adult Swim -on Demand and the name of Holy is still called Holy and not as Hold.

Why does everyone like Slayers?
Personally, I can't stand this old school animation and character designs. The main character seems to come off as so obnoxious its nauseating. Also, I can't stand that swordsman with the blonde hair because he comes off as a totally oblivious moron. I've only seen a couple episodes and then stopped watching it when it airs on The Anime Network on Demand channel. The supernatural fight scenes seem pretty dull and nothing memorable. The story doesn't look like anything spectacular or original from what I've seen and the comedy is about as dry as a cracker in my opinion.

Yeah, Toonami will most likely commit another murder and the victim's name will be Naruto.
Even great series like Cowboy Bebop has been subject to unnecessary editing. What's so necessary with editing that the footage cannot be shown on a programing block that is meant to be viewed by 14 years of age and older?! Maybe Adult Swim should change their name to "Kindergarten Swim" - All adults and teenagers out of the pool.
Seems like Toonami and Adult Swim are about as strict as a school of nuns.
A character says a bad word! Dear lord! My fragile, little, innocent mind has been poisoned with these words of the devil! Give me a break, young kids these days learn more foul language from the streets and at their school than from watching television and movies and 12 year olds learn about porn by reading their dad's playboy magazines.

Actually I don't care if they cut out swearing as long as they don't make it sound stupid. I'm against them cutting out things like sex and violence, things that will actually add something to the show, but cutting swearing?
It's not like the word **** really matters.
Hiltz

It's the delivery of the word that gives it feeling. ;)
Dirty dialouge is the original part of the anime series just as scenes of sex and violence are too. It's funny how they replace words such as "shit" with "damn it!" or "crap". Does it really make a difference? A bad word is a bad word so leave it the f**k alone. :eek2:
I just think that if an anime is being shown on a mature network like Adult Swim with fair warning messages to discourage younger viewers then editing shouldn't really come into play by making silly digital touch ups and replacing "harsh" dialouge with bull shit tactics. "Mature" shows being shown on a "mature" network yet resorting to the use of immature editing. :ugh:

Watch Scrapped Princess. I don't know why this show hasnt gotten more publicity, but it was absolutely awesome to watch. I liked everything about it (with the exception of Winnia's shirt).
Anyways, I'm all for violence as long as the animation is smooth and it adds something to the story. As soon as you have 3 episodes devoted to a character "powering up," it's time to stick your head in a blender.
As for nudity/sex, I'd love to have that cut out. Whenever I'm watching a new anime, I'm horribly nervous that there will be something on the screen that I dont want to see, and that my siblings shouldn't see. Alluding to such scenes is alright, as long as I don't see anything (because such events can have dramatic impact on a story).
Hiltz
06-02-2005, 09:27 AM
Nudity I don't mind as much but I do agree about being rather uncomfortable with sex scenes. In some cases its part of the story like the rape scene in Ninja Scroll but at least we can make use of the fast forward button at our finger tips. :D

I agree completely, censoring cuts out virtually all of the good stuff from pretty much everything, I mean c'mon already I've seen two versions of one anime (I think it was Akira) one was lent to me by a friend and wasn't too bad, but then I saw it again one night on the sci-fi channel and it was edited so much I would've sworn it was another anime with the same name, what were they thinking.

HOLY is the Alter User task force division of HOLD. They have the exact same logo except for the last letter. That's not a censor. I don't even watch the show and I know that.

I was lead to believe that because I never recall seeing or hearing anything about "HOLD" and only everything about "HOLY" in the Adult Swim On-demand version of the anime series. I failed to notice it until episode 2 of the series that just aired on the Cartoon Network/Adult Swim Network Saturday.
Furthermore, I have to say that it still rather hard to distinguish them apart because they have the same logo design and colors and both words are capitalized and the only actual difference between the two words are the last letters.
I just looked it up on the official website though and there is indeed both a "HOLY" and a "HOLD".

Sexual suggestions in anime doesn't bother me in anime's. Violence can bother a bit sometimes however. I'm not meaning stuff like 2 samurais cutting the crap out of eachother or big gunfights or something like that. The best examples would probably be Elfen Lied and Gundam Seed. Elfen Lied's violence simply goes over the top with innocents, men, women and children, getting their heads chopped of in rows. Don't get me wrong, the show is great and boldly portrayed, but I can't seem to stay away despite the gruesome things going on in it.
Gundam Seed isn't so explicit in the violence, but it still manages to kill of a rather huge number of innocent people. It's as if it's a big reminder of how sad and meaningless a war is for the soldiers in it, as well as the population in the places it is fought. Perhaps it's just me being silly or overly caring, but I get somewhat depressed from all that killing of human beings. (Especially in the last 3 episodes where the killing really ramps up).

There's just something uneasy about watching cartoons make love. ;)
Perfect blue would not have the mental shock it had without the thier sexual scenes forceful or otherwise.
Its all about delivery.
Im all for nudity, sex, rape, and murder of insane amounts of innocent people. Shoot, I would also condone tentacle rape!
Why?
1.Emotinoal value
2.Development of the world the characters are in
3.Helps push the story forward.
The only requiste is that it doesnt seem random and for the sake of "fanservice"
I agree about gundam seed. I actually felt sorry for the lady soilders in the generic gundams eating it. I even felt a tinge when flaye died. It seemed much.

I haven't seen gundam seed, but I can understand where your coming from, violence in anime is great but needless violence just because they needed to fill a few moments destroys a good plot. A perfect anime would have well thought out characters, action scenes, blood, guts, gore, nudity and sex in all the right quantities to bind the story line together. I'm not too sure about condoning tentacle rape though, it just seems soo wrong in many ways.
Hiltz
06-10-2005, 10:44 AM
I didn't feel sorry for anyone who died in Gundam Seed. It's use of repetitive flashy battles that resulted in lots of people dying all the time was just a killjoy for the ending of the series.
Tentacle rape? I think I have a good idea of what this is and I think it is one of the most disturbing things humans have ever thought up.

some updated anime news.
Naruto will debut on Cartoon Network on Saturday, Sept. 10, at as part of the Toonami block from 9 - 10 pm (episodes 1 & 2)
Neon Genesis Evangelion will be coming to Adult Swim.
Ghost in the Shell 2nd Gig will air on Adult Swim sometime in September as will Cowboy Bebop: The Movie.
Escaflowne: The movie will be airing on Adult Swim sometime in July.
I don't know why some people are so confused about with Paranoia Agent. There's actually a hint that connects everyone together if you see the ending scene animation.

Tenjho Tenge....haha, sexual suggestions AND violence
If you read the translated manga i will ****ing kill you !!!
They basically raped it when translating, and that doesnt even mention the horrible things the art was put trouh.
------------------------------------------
Also what is it with all this hate of Dragon ball !?
THE dubbed anime sucks becouse they clipped and EVEN BLOODY REAPEATED SCEENES TO MAKE UP FOR IT !!! Its alls horribly translated.
Im not saying the japanese version does the manga mutch credit either thou, but for the time it came out, it was pretty good.
------------------------------------------
And why are some of you afraid of naked people !?!?!?! Thats just ****ed up rigth there.
I have no problems with sceenes in any anime i have ever watched, there are sex sceenes in some, there are brutal rapes and even horrible murders, but aslong as the story of the show is portrayed well, and the sceene serves a very importent part then i have no problem at all.
-------------------------
Naruto.......
Im afraid most of you will hate the dub...... They have as usal picked the same horrible voice actors they use often, the ones that cant act nor portrayed emotion whatsoever when they do the voices..... Its annoying when in the japanese version you can get a realistic scream, and in the dubs its almost always, a half hearted one that doesnt even fit.......
Also they are censoring the show alot, they will be removing any blood in motion from what ive heard, or blood that just flows a way they dont want it... They will proboly cut the sceene were sasuke is impaled by needles...... only showing his face or mouth and not showing whats wrong with him at all.........
And you can bet they will turn every swear word into " child friendly " manners...................
Seriosly the worst dub ive ever seen thou, ONE PIECE !!!!
WHAT THE HELL WHERE THEY THINKING !!! THEY DESTROYED IT !!

For those of you who liked FLCL, keep an eye out for Gunbuster 2. It's made by the same studio and is also only 6 episodes. They release an episode like every 4 or 5 months, which kind of sucks, and are releasing the third episode I think this or next month.
It is really cool, and crazy, but not as crazy as FLCL.

I think the Canadian version of Dragon Ball GT is far worse.
Naruto is overrated.

Naruto is overrated.
If it was it wouldnt be the most popular manga and anime in the world currently.
It has original storyline, very good character creation and the creator does a great job of making the characters personality come out. And the art is excellent.
The anime is simple at times, but considering there is a budget, you cant expect that they will have all the epsiodes amazing, and fillar will happen no matter what, in narutos case the filler episodes arent very bad thou.
And they do create some very excellent episodes , but only at very importent places. They are also keeping to the storyline quite tigthly.
So how is it overated ?
----------------------
Isnt Canada literally the mother of all bad dubbing and censor ?

- Flashbacks are very annoying because they are so overused. Personally, I don't really look forward to watching half an episode that is devoted to flashbacks and not just new ones but old ones aplenty.
- The repetitive story telling found in many of the epsiode almost puts me to sleep.
- For some time now Naruto's combat strategy has become predictable enough to make your nose blood. Naruto, care to try something new already?
- As much as I like the music in Naruto (OP & Ending themes) I've noticed the heavy dose of recycled background music played throughout the series.
- It's been well over 130 episodes and Sakura is getting some attention (finally). In addition, it hopefully means that we won't have to hear any more of the repetitive "I feel useles" dialouge that she is infamous for.
- I'm still waiting to be impressed by all these fight scenes and so far they've been rather disappointing when compared to Orochimaru vs. Hokage and Rock Lee vs. Gaara and those were in the early episodes!
- Long drawn out fight scenes that don't end until 2 or more episodes later seems to do more harm than good (no thanks to flashbacks). I'm most excited when they end compared to when they keep on going.
- Naruto has a noticable amount of recycled dialouge. You can probably hear at least two recycled lines of his in almost any given episode where he makes an appearence.
I like watching Naruto just as much as the next guy or gal,but that does not mean I don't ignore the things I dislike about it.

Naruto the anime is uh...kinda bleh. I only dl to fast foward to the fight scenes, and the scenes they don't have in the manga, like the Kimmimaro flashback.
Anywayz, the manga is far better and is IMO one of the better Shonen mangas of its category. Especially since part II of the manga started, it has been an AWESOME ride. EVERY chapter has been unpredicable with the new Akatsuki villains introduced and how Naruto and Co reacts to it. It's soo exciting ^^

Sorry if this has already been put down but I couldn't be bothered going through 86 posts just to see it it had. Anyway, I highly reccommend Blood, the Last Vampire (movie) is really awesome. A bit short, but awesome.

The entire ghost in the shell series/movies is great. Just got innocence myself. Um... Cow boy bebop the movie is good. I really dont like dbz and I dont really consider it a anime any more. GT sucked horribly. Now they have the entire thing rewinded in the "uncut" version. I remember way back when they first aired dbz then they cut it down some the second time on now there going back to the first. Nothing new.
