Sorry for the long delay everyone, but we've finally got this thing underway.
This contest is going to start out like any other contest. You will compete against everyone on this board, but the top entries (method of judging will be announced near the end) will go on against the top entries from OMU (http://omu.kuiki.net/bbs/main.php). There will still be a prize for winning the PK round of the contest, but you only win the grand prize if you beat out the other board. Right now, the contest is looking to be an art book (to be determined based on winner), and a gift certificate.
What you need to know:
The deadline is June 30th 11:59 PM PST (extended from the 16th). This may be extended later, but for now, prepare to have it done at least by this date.
The theme is "School's Out". You may interpret this as you wish, but you ARE judged based on theme.
This board is "PG-13" and the entries should reflect that. You can enter what you want (within that limit), but don't be surprised if you draw a bunch of scantily clad women that have very little relation to the theme and you don't take the win. Skill is only part of it.
Judging is based on three factors:
Skill- This is the technical portion. Is the perspective right? How about anatomy and proportions? Did you attempt something difficult, or did you just draw a simple figure with no background? Basically, it all boils down to how well it is drawn/painted/etc.
Theme- How well does your entry relate to the them. Keep in mind that it isn't a simple yes or no scoring. Yes, having a bunch of people laying around on the beach could easily be explained as relating to the "school's out" theme, but that doesn't mean that it relates as well as another entry. If it seems like you're just tacking on some sort of explanation to a very generic image, you will score low in this category.
Creativity- This relates to the theme category as far as how you take it and interpret it. It's also about how you decide to present your idea, and how successful you were at coming up with unique idea. Again, some things show that more thought was put into them than others.
Entries should be sized APPROPRIATELY. Here is something I made a while back to help you get that size down, and to inform you when to save as a jpg or a gif: Attack of the Giant Images (http://www.polykarbonbbs.com/faq.php?faq=polykarbon_faq#faq_new_faq_item). Your image really shouldn't be any larger than 250kb if you're doing it right, but I think we'll allow up to 300kb. Anything larger and you will be disqualified. If you are having trouble getting your image to this size, ASK A MOD or get help from someone, and do NOT wait until the last minute to do so. I will be glad to help you reduce the size without hurting the quality if you ask me at least a week in advance. If you ask me the day before, or the day of, then I'm not going to be very sympathetic. Don't wait until the last minute. You may make those images any dimension that you choose, as long as it is within the size limit. Any image that can fit on 1024 X 768 resolution should not have a problem with this.
You are responsible for posting and hosting your own entries. We will create a contest forum specifically for those entries, and then you may begin posting when you are done. You may enter as many times as you want, but only your top entry will be selected to move on to the next round. You have to decide whether it's worth competing against yourself by entering in another image.
If you have any questions or comments, you may post them in this thread, and we will try to answer them the best we can.
