Battlefield 1942 kicked ass! I cant wait for BF2, I meight get it either for PC or Xbox. Whats better than a war game? A war game with the ability to drive and steal any vehicles in your sight! oh and online play too....

seriously, you can steal:
Bikes
jeeps
Trucks
Tanks
helicopters
Boats
Planes(from jets, to bombers, to even those old planes with those double wings)
Submarines
I loved BF 1942. I guess I'll get this game.
oh, you can also have jetpacks! at least on BF Secret weapons of WWII

I like the graphics.
I installed the demo last night and messed around with it. I never played the original, so it was all new to me. The controls were easy enough to pickup though. I tend to prefer team based games over straight deathmatch stuff, so it was definitely good for that. I think that's the main reason I bought unreal tournament 2k4.
I like the graphics and the vehicles are fun to mess around with. I had a little trouble identifying enemies and telling where they were when I was getting shot at, but I think I just need some more practice in the game.
It was also a little weird playing on a server with 64 people on it since it was hard to tell what the hell was going on sometimes. I suppose that could be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it. I also like that you can choose different specialties when you startup and so I'll need to mess with those some more to figure out what's most fun.

To be fair, I'm sure people had trouble telling where they were getting shot from in real wars too.
the first demo was awesome, I liked it more than most full games. It was probably a mistake picking one of the best maps in the game, since there were so many people who would just play the demo instead of the full game.
Have they fixed the on-foot shooting? In 1942 it was completely pointless to run around and try to shoot people with standard guns because its like the bullets would never hit them, the sniper rifle and rocket launcher were the only guns you could actually kill people with it seemed.

The sniper rifle seems very inaccurate to me, and very unresponsive.
The det packs are still always the most fun to use anyways :P

Haha, I suppose what I said came out wrong since I didn't exactly mean it that way. I just meant I was having a bit of trouble getting my bearings which I think just had more to do with not playing much of it yet.

I don't have anything to compare it to, but it didn't seem too difficult to kill people while moving around since I did it a few times. I did notice that a lot of people liked to camp though, but I would think that's just good strategy in large team games like this.

I have what you could consider in most games a mid range pc (P4 2 Ghz, 512mb ram, 256mb ati radeon 9600XT) but it ran like utter poop, while other games run real great, like guild wars and UT2004. Especially on a larger server you notice it. Not the connection, which is fine, but the fact that the level is bigger on a larger server, so even more to process.
I like the squad based action, since the foot soldiers are more functional now. The sniper rifle seems a little awkward to use.

Man it crashed my whole pc after a few minutes of playing. Not even as a result of overheating. That meant a one way trip to the recycle bin. Maybe I'll buy it next year when I'll buy a better pc.

I can't wait!!!
Man... I really love flyin around the skys in planes and stuff,
especially in helicopters in Desert Combat... as for Vietnam, I never really liked it as much, and I don't really know why though, I found it more difficult to play heli's so I guess thats it :/
I'm not mad about this game yet, cause basically, I'm quite content with what I have atm, lots of cool games have been released in the past year or two... so I guess I won't be gettin BF2 anytime soon, unless I get braodband, but thats a seperate matter
I was always the medic in BF1942, I mean, c'mon, you can't die! (well, its easier to stay alive) or the Special Ops in Desert Combat...
Classes rule... reminds me of Team Fortress (i had half-life version).... I feel like playin that now actually... stupid steam...
I thought the helicopters were extremely hard in desert combat, if they were harder in vietnam then thats kind of scary. It was usually suicide getting into a helicopter back in desert combat because pretty much nobody knew how to land or theyd flip the damn thing if they tried to turn. What I did was jump in a helicopter and make a b-line to where I want to go and then bail out, they werent much more useful for other things unless you were one of the few people who could actually turn in them without losing control

I can't wait to play this as well, but sadly I'll be on a 56k for the next two or three months. Something I was wondering though, what is the damage-health ratio when on foot? Like could a well placed bullet finish you off?
Izzy/K

I would think so...
I thought the helicopters were extremely hard in desert combat,
I haven't tried the helicopter yet, but the planes were kind of hard to figure out. I've crashed a few times just trying to take off. The vehicles in general have been a little hard to get used to. I'm used the the unreal ones which are all pretty intuitive to fly/drive. Again, I suppose having the vehicles with their own quirks could be considered a good or bad thing. I haven't decided whether I like it yet or not.
Like could a well placed bullet finish you off?
Seems like that only applies to the sniper rifle, since the other guns just aren't that accurrate. It does seem to track headshots though.

I was the only one out of my friends who could fly a DC helicopter. Made me feel special.

This game is making me drool. I always thought the next big step in graphics would be good anti-aliasing, and then motion blur (still waiting for real time motion blur); and it makes the game look awesome. The skins on the vehicles/buildings also have static ambient shadows and dynamic cast shadows. I only wish I could run the highest graphics.
It seems though that standing and shooting gets you killed. In Vietnam, crouching and shooting was the best idea, but even that in BF2 can mean death. The best option is to go prone when you encounter someone.
And watch out for HermesConrad, he'll tear you up. :)

We should set up a Polykarbon Server, when everyone accually gets the game
Could someone tell me the base price its starting at? Cause i haven't been outa the house for a few days.
I dont think the game looks as good as they were letting on. Im not sure what game the people are playing at EA but the demo looks NOTHING like the screenshots they release, I have everything on high and the shadows are still really jagged and some stuff has a pretty low polygon count when you get up close, the lighting is also pretty average (the official screenshots make everything look like its high poly with great looking shadows and realistic diffused lighting).

Should I buy it?
Vava2109

yes...buy it...it is an awesome game, i might wait till the price dives to like 20 or 30 but that might not happen for a few years, and something else might take its place.
((Mods is my banner in my sig too big or what? just made it today for someone else and i had to see if it worked.))

The plane were only good for killing other planes. and helicopters were too hard maneuvering. Other then that the demo rocked.
haha and snowfox, the exact same happened to me.
Oh! vava.. a server would have ruled cause punkbuster keeps kicking me out

OK, I just bought the game, and where is the CD-Key?
Also, I got the DVD version....can't find it...so wierd this has never happened to me before...bleh
Fixed it
All I got to say is....ZOMFG what the **** is up with the graphics lag? I can play HL2 with everything on max but resolution at 1024x7-something and no bumpmapping, yet this game lags the **** out of my computer when playing with everyone on the lowest setting and resolution at 800x600....what the ****?!?!?

I havent read any post... I just got to say OMFG best fps since Half-Life!
(I never played Quake =P)
I waqs lucky enough to be able to play it at a LAN NITE in the local gaming place 4 mins after the official release to  to you all!!!
It was fecking class I tell ye! 20~25 people playing BF2 for the first time (well, retail ver anywho...) Although, now and again it crashed because of some issue with graphics cards drivers or some other technical bullshizzle... Can't wait till I have the money to get it! (or go to another LAN night at Clan Entertainment... €12.50 plus food/drink/drink/drink money...)

You could have known it runs like crap, the demo has been out for a while now. It runs like crap on my pc as well (even though it's mid-range) so I'm not buying it.

I'm still on a 56K, but I decided to buy the game anyways (hopefully upgrading to at least 256K, so I'm hoping that will at least make online playable). But even with teams of 8, small maps and horrible bots the game is amazing. Everything is turned up to the highest, and since you're always focused on the battle the graphics come off even more amazing. As far as action goes, I'm more fond of the battles that take place in Middle Eastern streets. Especially once the explosions start landing all around you, kicking up dust and debris while distorting your hearing. You fire off the last of your rounds, then pull out your pistol to kill the person in front of you and someone sneaking up on a squadmate from an alley. Or when you have to switch away your weapon and run into a fire fight to revive someone. Good stuff.
All in all battles on foot are as fun as I was hoping. Sometimes it seems like someone can take a lot of hits, but for the most part I'm finding the standard guns (I'm usually Assault or Medic) to be really accurate and deadly (Not in the sense that it hits what the crosshair says, but where I naturally expect the crosshair needs to be in order to get critical shots / lead the target).
The wheeled vehicles also handle pretty well, and steering reminds me of other games so it is easy to go exactly where you want to. Manning the guns is also pretty fun (even with the bots driving), especially when you're in the position to use your normal gun (like on the back of the humvee or in some helicopters). I just wish I would have gotten more of a chance to learn flying - the bots always steal the jets and helicopters first.
I've never really gotten to fly yet, as that
Vava2109

flying is the best part, you know how to switch what gun . . .pack thing while playing? press enter and next time you die you can be a new thing... yeah. I'm almost always Anti-tank or Assault because of the explosives.
Jets are the best at going to enemy base and parachuting down, do that and you'll rule the game. just hide and snipe is my suggestion.

You can also pick up kits that people drop when dead/critically wounded. Many times I've seen a medic go down, and had to rush to him and use his own kit to revive him.
But mostly with the small maps and bots, there is no time for sneaking around or sniping, or any clever tactics. It is just a mad sprint to the destination, crouch by a wall near a flag and shoot anything that approaches while praying you have enough ammo and skill to last the assault by yourself (and usually that is the case with bots as the leader). Getting to a plane is impossible - it is hard enough to make it to the back of a helicopter before they take off on you.... I really can't wait to play online.

they'll probably release a special keyboard thing for the 360, but , I dont know how its gonna work. I thought they were just gonna use the regular xbox360 controllers, but there are so many buttons needed for this game....

Yeah, I figured as much. I can't wait to play against real people, people who would try to use camo and all. Is there only one game type though?
