scariest/most fear inducing

I'm looking for what people consider the scariest game or games of all time. I just started playing system shock 2 and it's really jumpy so far, especially with the lights out and the sound way up but it's not as terrifying as it could be. Half Life 2 had a great ambience, the sound was the best part of the game. Did anyone notice the faint voices of creepy children as you aproached the playground? Good stuff.

I really don't find games and movies to be very scary in general. But I guess I'll say either REmake or Silent Hill (theentire series). Both are pretty freaky.

Playing Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, but perhaps that is more freaky than scary with its hallucinations. Although, the book was made of human flesh and bone, yum, yum!

Maybe Silent Hill 3 or Clock Tower 3.

I'd say Eternal Darkness is the only one that ever creeped me out, and i've played all of those.

It was the best done scary game, even if it wasn't exactly terrifying (in the dark with the lights off and the volume up).

The background noises and whispering in ED is what made it so eery for me.

I found Eternal Darkness more funny than scary. Partly because it was so incredibly easy. But it was a very well-done game and was fairly long. There need to be more games like that.

Which little thing you picked at the beginning decided the difficulty, green was ridiculously easy, if you pick red it's basically impossible to kill anything, and you die in 1-2 hits.

It changes the base zombies, monolith dudes, and guardians for the rest of the game.

Green makes it those little burnt husks
Blue makes it those ones that explode
Red makes it those big undying flesh zombies

Eternal Darkness wasn't really creepy, it was more just ****ed up. Which made it awesome. Though walking around the mansion between levels, as she was going insane, with all the babies crying, and door banging and alll that shit was pretty creepy some nights.

I froze when I saw the dead body in the bath, that was the only 'jump' worthy part. And like what Bran said, the Mansion was pretty creepy, I was always expecting a monster to appear, and when I first heard the footsteps running towards me and the pounding on the door, that was creepy.

At the mo I'm playing Fatal Frame/Project zero 2, the start was really scary, but now it's not bad cuz I know how to fight the ghosts effectively.

It's a game by Silicon Knights, originally started as an N64 game but then moved to gamecube (much like RE0). It's got a great story and interesting gameplay, the best of which is teh sanity meter. When your sanity is low weird stuff starts to happen. For example, your character might suddenly be decapitated you you might sink into teh ground. Those aren't really the best examples, but giving you the best examples would ruin the surprise. ;)

Eternal darkness was cool. most of the stuff in it was a copy of HP Lovecraft's work.

Speaking of Lovecraft is Call of the Cthulhu out yet?

Yes the bloody bathtub scene has to be the scarest moment in any video game for me it was sooo unexpected. Man that game was cool. Best horror game to me was Silent Hill 2. I aslo liked Fatal Frame 2 quite abit (Like when the girl peers into a shelf like thing shown from the side angle and there is a little girl ghost right near her face best momement in game!)

I've only played the first one [AVP] but that was creepy enough. also Resident evil 1 and 4. there's this one part in star wars Dark forces 2 where your walking through a pitch black temple and all of a sudden two Ginormous lizard things come out of nowhere and bite your fricken ass off.

well as i see it the only game that ever even frightened me a little was resident evil i dont remember which one i was 10 years old and i got scared so thats about it oh and on gradius 3 for ps2 theres a loud shocking noise about the 3rd level so have the volume down n low OMG sSAM CHAMPLOOS ON IM MISSING IT AHHHG!waaah
