PolyKarbon Counter Strike: Source nights?

Well, back in the ezboard days Polykarbon used to have a lot of Counterstrike nights. I figured it'd be pretty cool if we ressurected the tradition.

I figured a good time would be 01:00 GMT, which is kinda late (but bearable) for me, and means that the eastcoast americans can play this at around 21:00 and the westcoast at around 17:00. Which just about works for the majority of the board.

Also, we're going to need someone who can host as a dedicated server. Password protecting the game, so that only PKers join, will probably help too.

I had another thought, that maybe we could do a PK vs Fufu BBS (board I manage) kinda thing. Admittedly Fufu is damn small in comparison to this board, but Counterstrike doesn't run thousand-player games either, does it?

Concerning Xfire... it doesn't seem like a necessary thing to just get straight to the gaming. Also, even if I was up for using it, I bet someone else interested in playing wouldn't be up for installing it. Let's keep things simplified.

As far as a suitable day goes, weekends seem the easiest to work with, and I figure most people want their saturday evenings free, so how is everyone with holding it on Sundays (and would holding the first one tommorow be cool or too short-notice)?

Hmm, well I would buy it. It's hard to five-finger discount. I had a friend who used to game with me on it a lot, but now his IP is banned because his was downloaded. I know that it comes free with Half Life 2. Which shouldn't be too expensive now that it's been out for a bit. You can also use a coupon that comes with hardware (like ATI graphics cards), which is what I did.

The game can be cranked to some really nice settings, but if your computer sucks, it'll still probably run if you tweak the options right.

edit: I died so much when I first started playing this game. I also do whenever I quit it for a while too. It takes me about 3 nights to get to my prime, if that helps.

how are you going to find a server by tomorrow? I would play but I usually get kicked for having 56k, so random servers probably wouldnt work for me (it would also be practically impossible to organize)

Ive been playing cs on 56k for years, I can never manage to kill people with extremely low pings (like in the 30's, or stupid bots) since my bullets seem to not hit them but other than that I usually have no problem keeping a high score on servers with 10-15 people (close to 20 people and I start lagging and cant hit anyone). I dont know what my ping will be like on a 5mb connection but I'll try it out, should be alright as long as its under 275.

Sweet. Snowfox sometimes gets these really bad pings like 500 when I'm the one hosting, and can still play at level with me. I'll put your name down.

I dont know about other people but the only maps I like are: cs_office, de_dust2, cs_assault, de_port, cs_compound, cs_italy, de_cbble. Can we avoid havana, chateau, and piranesi like the plague?

Are they selling CS: S seperatly from HL2. My PC is kinda old and i would be wasting money to buy full HL2.

About my skills in CS.

During game of CS:1.5 with Average/Good players. I got 5 kills in 2,5-3 seconds. 4 headshots and one to the chest. All with one AK clip. They all magicly jumped or run into my crosshairs. I was simply amazed.

Other than that. Sometimes i get couple of kills when playing against pro's. I'm an avarage player with some good moments sometimes.

cs:s is free with hl2, or hl2 is free with cs:s depending on how you look at it since its the price of a single game. They both use the same engine so if you cant run hl2 then you probably cant run cs:s, but its really scalable so your computer would have to be extremely crappy not to beable to play.

Hm....My video card ig giving me problems right now. I updated to the newest driver and started CS:S...and now it says I don't have a DX7 compatable videocard...even though mine support DX8...bleh.

I just reinstalled my videocard...bleh...no help.

Once Drevay get's the two computers he has lanned together and working properly I would be able to join in if I'm around. I'm not ever considering playing CS:S from home until:
1. The purchase of a new computer, which may happen soon anyway.
2. A new, faster form of internet connection is available in my area. I don't even want to think of the lag a 36k connection would result in.

Take your time D. As for a temporary solution, maybe we can agree on a server that is already set up until a more permanent PK server is up. We can invade a specific server and meet up there. That way we can come and go as we please and not worry if the temp PK server is up or not.


We can identify each other simply by adding PK to our tag.

Ok, so all is good, I have the graphics card and all is installed. No game tonight, though, I have to exchange my Linksys Wireless-G PCI Adapter for a Linksys Wireless-G USB Adapter. It was a tad too close to my snazzy new graphics card, and causing it (the graphics card) to overheat. So, yeah. I had to take out my sound card just so I can use the Intarwebnets for today / last night.

Other commitments tend to just spring up for no reason. I won't go into as to what they are, since they are private, family matters, but they're things that cannot be warned about and cannot be avoided.

I did not want to simply "just host". I wanted to play as well, and I didn't want to go through the trouble of setting up scripts for a dedicated server when I'd only be using it once a week.

I have never had a router before, and I had assumed that this router would port forward automatically as it does so for many applications. Anyway, I got that worked out.

Stop telling me I fail, please, because I don't. These are all legitimate excuses.

Hate me if you must, but you have to know, that I really don't care if you do or not. :p

Anyway, I can see sinfire has already gotten to you, so I'm assuming you're going to hate me irregardless of what I say - and not believe me.

I was going to host tomorrow night, you know, to try and make up for the lost time, and make it a nice, long game - but now with this new found knowledge, I'm seriously reconsidering that.

It's not a threat, as I have no reason to threaten you, it's just that I don't have to put up with assholes. I was offering to do something for free, on my time, when I have a very, very busy schedule. I would have done so if things just didn't "come up". And, face it, when you're an adult, things just "come up".

If I were in your shoes, I would have empathy for the situation, as I do many times, and think "Hey, maybe he really DOES have other commitments that come up with out a moment's notice that can't be put off?"

However, all of my personal commitments have been, hopefully, taken care of for the next while - at least until college starts, which is in September.

If anybody does want a game, fine, I'll reconsider, but if nobody wants it then, fine, I'll get to go out on Sundays.

I dont see what the big deal is about sunday, sat and sun are the slowest days for the board. Weekdays are much busier (mon-wed are busiest) and the games that are held during the week are a lot more popular considering a sunday game has not even happenned yet thanks to no one ever being on.

Yeah it was a good game, it would be better if more people joined though. You press 'ctrl' to duck, it makes you more accurate with your weapon. I'll show you how to play sometime.

Ok, apparently nobody wanted a game. At 8 PM nobody had replied still so I just didn't bother.

Anyway, there will be no game on Sunday as I am moving into my new apartment. In fact, since several people refuse to go on my server merely because it's "my" server, I'm not going to bother hosting another game for this community unless at least 10 people decide to want to show up.

I'm not threatening, it's just, you know, if only three people show up what's the fun?

Also, the reason why you guys lagged so horribly is because sin has an absolutely horrible connection. It's not just him, though. Nearly all of London has absolutely shitty DSL / ADSL connections, usually topping out at around 128k, so he can't really help that.

So, I'll still have a 5mbit connection in college (same ISP), it's just that I'll only host if 10+ people are interested - only prereq.

Anyway, no game Sunday, but I might boot one up the following Saturday or something - if enough people are interested.
