I didn't want to hijack Fuchow's photo thread so I thought I'd do one of these boring "I'm new here" threads. I'm not really new though.

So where have I been? What have I been up to? How am I doing?

I've been lurking off and on for a long time but I haven't done any drawing for so long that I didn't see a reason to register. For the past few years I have wandered aimlessly around the internet looking for interesting things to do - I found little, which doesn't at all surprise me. :) I spend most of my online time on LJ (primarily my own but I like to surf too). Most of my time is taken up by Matthew (my son). He's gotten really big - I'll post some pictures sometime. I've dabbled in photography - I have nothing online to share, sorry. I'm taking some college classes - finished two classes with A's and am registered for three this fall.

All things considered, I'm good.

:) I remember when I was a young little n00b and i went into the pk chat and made a fool of myself. Can't remember what it was about, all I remember was the Anyte and Keiichi were there and I ended up leaving the chat and then reentering under a different alias, but they knew it was me.

If weren't so lazy I'd reply to each and every one of you.

Anyte is 39 and lives in Carver - near the Ren-Fest. Anyte also has three children, one of whom is turning 18 in just over a month. I know [of] a lot of people online that live in Minnesota. One of my favorite online friends lives in St. Paul.

What's so scary about me? I'm scary in ways that are never immediately clear.

Old FF, new FF - how about original?

I have no drawings to post. Even when I was drawing, before, I never really posted. I only dabble in the fine art of scribbling. That's all I need to justify being here. :D

DN is a good looking guy with dark curly hair. He has worked from home, though he may not anymore and he has been rock climbing at least once. Your handle has changed, but you're still known by the same name. I could very well be wrong but only on one or two of the details.

Either Snowfox knows me or has done their research. :) I'm terrible with names, I'm surprised I can even remember my own.

If I'm not scary, why are you addressing your post to others, rather than me?

Is my art any good? I'm not so sure anyone here would be able to answer that question as I rarely posted work on PK. I'm into realism, photo-realism, and trompe l'oeil. I work almost exclusively in graphite. I sketch anime, but rarely do finished pieces. I do most of my finished art on 14X17 and 18X24 - not at all convenient for scanning.

Will we ever know if "oldie" is "any good artwise"? Stay tuned for the continuing adventures of "oldie" and the noobies . . .

If you tell a child that something is bad for them, the first thing they do is set about discovering for themselves exactly why that something is bad for them, and when they discover the truth of it they whine and cry about it.

I don't do online games. Online games are too annoying. People always want to chat and chat and chat, or someone is always whining for help, or some clown tries to show how powerful they are by doing everything for you, and then you have all the cheaters. Boring. If I'm going to play games with people it has to be in the same room with them so I can punch them if they get stupid. :D

I know the comment is old, but I just noticed this even though I've stopped by the thread a few times. You're pretty much right on all counts, especially the "good looking" part. :p And yes, I still work from home.

I actually have used FF for a while now. I think the BBS decided it was too short.

Yeah, it has a 3 character minimum limit when you sign up, but I found I could edit it in the settings since I'm an admin. Lucky me.

I like to do some fan art, but only to merge stories. I'll have a venom from guilty gear fighting venom from spider-man, or rag rappy fighting pikachu...blah blah blah. But I really hate when people trace and pass it off as their own, and people believe them.

Some people do copy pictures without tracing. That's probably what they meant. I did that up until a few years ago when I decided I wanted to get serious about drawing and learn how to do my own stuff. I guess what I'm saying is don't be hard on people like that. They grow out of it.

I enlarge existing images for my own enjoyment - the only tool I ever use to do such work is the occasional grid for more challenging and laborous projects. Sometimes I draw from life, sometimes from photos, and on occasion from my head, but all to often I draw things from magazines that catch my eye. Often the only credit I can be given is in my shading or coloring, but I trace nothing.

Many fine-art schools have students copy existing works of arts as part of their training. Many artists, in all fields, use "reference" photos for drawing. While you may wish to think that means they look at some photos and then dream up something in their head before drawing, you would be incorrect. Many artists also employ the use of grids, made from wood and string (fishing line perhaps), to draw from life. I know enough artists to feel comfortable and confident in the means I use to produce art that is solely for my own enjoyment.

Perhaps we should start pissing on people that use computers to ink and color their images for them as well. After all, it's the computer that is really doing the work, right.

MN is great though seriously lacking some snow.

I'm working on a wire sculpture and have shelved a decoupage piece that I was working on - it's a total pain. It's a cross between elevated and repousse (I know, no one has a clue). I borrowed the image (with permission) from a comic book artist. I'm still hoping to finish it one of these days.
