The official Grand Prize Winner of the very first OMU/PK Cross Board Art Contest is...
traum4 from the PolyKarbon BBS!!!
It was very close, but only one could win the whole shebang! We'll be in touch with traum4 soon to settle out of court with that Grand Prize! ;)
Here are just a couple of the comments made about traum4's entry by our celebrity cast of judges:
Sven from the OMU - Good use of warm colors to add the feeling of summer to this pic. The shading, especially the increase of saturation before the shadow begins is handled very well. The pic reads very well, it is obvious that it is summer and it is also obvious that the girl in the pic is impatiently waiting for the last few minutes of school to tick off so she can be free.
The girl's left foot is a bit wonky. I see that it turns in a bit to the other foot but the outside contour makes the foot seem very wide.
I also don't particularly care for the soft airbursh look all around the girl. I think it's a bit overdone, it easily could have been less and still accomplished the feel traum4 was looking for. Also, the boy with the black hair has a very crisp outline on his hair, this sticks out when opposed to the softness of the rest of the background. The very dark black also punches a hole in the image to an extent.
All of these critiques are minor. Overall the picture holds together very well and tells a story very clearly. This is why I picked it as the winner.
Professor Az - Firstly this piece has great subject matter, and was the best at sticking to all of the contest guidelines. The humor aspect gives it an extra oomph, as does the color scheme and overall composition.
Secondly, the lineart outline of the desk and the girl creates some good contrast from the rest of the classroom, although I feel the guy with the black hair is a tad too dark. I really like the reflections on the floor, but do any classrooms near the end of the year have floors that clean? Hmmm...
Finally, it was a relief to find a cute girl in a contest entry without the obligatory panty shot or overabundant anatomy, as we have seen in the past. The picture tells the story well and is very tastefully done, without the need for excessive explanation.
This was very close, all the entries were very good, for me it took some strict interpretation of the contest guidelines to help me determine the overall winner.
DN from PK - I decided to weight things slightly in favor of theme this time, so I gave it to traum instead of darkreaver. It was certainly close, and like Al, I preferred dr's technically since it was a bit more consistant overall. However, traum's I thought much more clearly represented the theme, so I went with him.
Congrats again to traum4 for the big win! We'll be in touch! :)
