Gantz + Death Note

Anyone read either of these manga?

They're both spectacularly awesome and in list of top 5 mangas (and I've read a LOT)

Both of them have really realistic drawing styles, and they're heavily influenced me to go towards a more realistic style too.

I was hoping we can discuss these, because none of my friends have read them, and I can't get them to read it for some reason (I guess its because its TOO realistic =/, and they liked the cutesy stuff or something...)

Did you read the latest chapter 208? Frickin amazing XD I can't wait to see what Kurono is going to do with his 100 points once he gets it though.

The manga never loses steam and just gets better and better without ever being tiring. How does the mangaka do it?

bah...both these mangas are in my "okay" category...they both suffer directionless stories.

concerning death note: I liked it at first, but as it wore on, the "twists" in the story became less and less interesting. omg, there's ANOTHER guy with a death note?! blah blah blah blah BORING. I totally would have liked the mange to focus on interplay between light and L...that could have made a nice, contained story...instead, *SPOILER* the author killed off L */SPOILER*, and made the story spin off into complicated and ultimately uesless sounding directions.

concerning gantz: better than death note, in my opinion, although not as brain stimulating. here, i felt the author was better justified in killing off main characters...but still, I feel that the story direction is all over the place...basically, the author spends a lot of time building up main characters, and when they die, they drop off the face of the earth...what happened to kei-original? or kato's sibling? or anyone? I think the art technique used (using 3d models, and drawing over them) is very interesting, but ultimately it makes the art a little saccharine...frame after frame, they look exactly the same =\...I tend to enjoy some anatomical distortions in action scenes, as well as in situations of extreme expression.

the story for gantz in the middle (around when the dude pulled out the huge sword to kill the vampires) was pretty lame, but it picked up when they were killing the dinosaurs.

kurono's gonna revive that girl though.... i tihnk hes already made up his mind about that

The people could see the Gantzers too, when the timer went off.

I'm guessing that the rules of Gantz is changing, and that things might finally start wrapping up.

Personally, I think he might revive Katou before Tae, because then Katou can help him in reviving Kishimoto while he works up another 100 points to revive Tae. It'd be a interesting spin, considering everyone is expecting him to revive Tae.

However, knowing Gantz, something bad will happen when he revives somebody most likely lol.

I thought it was kickass that he started using the sword though.

Gantz's author really have a cynical view on people. Its's kind of disturbing.
Oh! I get sad when I see the wireframe on 3d rendered characters. :tear:

And I wish deathnote would have ended when L died.
I think the author just kept on writing the rest because it made som much money.

The author of gantz used to create love stories, between members of the same sex, and he also created a story about a boy who was becoming a woman.

His stories really center alot on the true faces of humans, what we do when were scared and panic, how self centerd we are.

He is also saying that no character is safe, even the main character migth suddenly die at one point and be replaced.
Quite well written and drawn i say.

The thing is , i dont think they are on the good side, in some of the missions , specially the first, we see that the aliens were not out to kill but to live, when they started killing them, ofcourse your gonna want to protect yourself and others of your kind. Some of the aliens are pretty mutch like humans thou.

Also i think the series will end after they face of with the vampires, specially considering that The main characters brother is on their side.

I enjoyed Death Note up until the other guy got a death note.. then it kinda ruined the series for me.. D:

I have seen the first few episode of Gantz and I do say it was pretty entertaining.. ^^

i liked gantz pretty much bcoz of the action and the art. Loved the gore but the story gets slower by the moment, like most of the other jump series. On making the manga, i think the artist posted like a tutorial page on 3-d rendering n stuff. I think it is included in one of those earlier chapters, i forgot. The artist pretty have a hentaish type of exp. too, having big boobies and hentai scenes and all. He shud revive tae or lara croft fo sho' coz they liked kurono n does favors for him like swallo' n stuff. Well..he prefers teh little one over teh big boobie reika coz of her 3l33t drawing skillz, heehee.

i liked death note coz it's smart and entertaining. The thing i don't like bout it is it does get looongg and boring. Not really much action in the series. The lil EGL gurl gets annoying in the manga too hehe. Yup, i agree bout ending the series when L died, coz for me right now, the story is a lil weak. Still like the art btw.
