"Repliee Q1 can interact with people. It can respond to people touching it. It's very satisfying, although we obviously have a long way to go yet."

haha Im sure it is....very....satisfying

Japan in general is really interested in robotics. Places like Sony have already stated at different times that they're interested in pushing things in that direction in the future. That's part of the reason they're so busy working on the AIBO (http://www.sony.net/Products/aibo/) and the QRIO (http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/QRIO/). It's only a matter of time before they start pushing into more human-like robots like this.

Of course, we all know what industry is really interested in this.

Playboy?

(playing off of my hippocracy, sorry)
But seriously, what?

Heh, close, but I was referring to the sex industries. I wonder if it will actually be legal to have brothels if they have androids instead of real people. It's been said that the two industries that are usually pushing the technology barriers are always the porn industry and the military.

And don't be too worried about my comment from the other thread. I still like you, Makkon. :p

Makkon
07-27-2005, 01:24 PM
Well, you were right about my contridicting comments. So no worries.

But anyways, ew. I wasn't serious about playboy, buy man... are there people out there who are THAT lonley? Imagine the guy who has to design the ****able android... Hope he's not married, unless it's a woman who designs it...

Hehe. The [bleep] android, eh?

Heh. I can just imagine how much they would ****ing cost.

Starting around a couple thousand bucks.

Probably around $999.95.

Eh, its way cheaper to buy a hooker.

Thus, that ****able robot would only be baught by.....those ugly rich stars...like Gary Coleman.

[edit] Never mind. Gary Coleman is far from rich.

If Japan wanted to they could create a George W. Bush look-alike android and replace it with the real U.S. president. The only difference is that the android would show signs of intelligence.

It would be awesome if Japan can mass produce these robots and put them out in public to see if anyone notices.

Last page is full of one liners :/.

I wonder how they'll ever properly simulate human movements without muscle like fibers ala I,Robot movie. I bet that thing curretly moves like one of the drunken pirates of the carribean (http://www.dlrphistory.nl/Disneyland%20Park/Disneyland%20Park%20Pics/Pirates%20of%20the%20Carribean%201.jpg) ride.

They probably COULD do that but the biggest obstacle today is power, I believe the main reason why they cant get prostetic limbs to move naturally is because they are so limited in terms of power since the more parts you include the more power it uses. Everyone in the robotics world is waiting on that "nuclear battery"

wasnt there a tech fiber in develpomnet to run under fluid kinemtaics a while ago, the synth fiber was to supposed to partially run under bloodpressure as wierd at it would sound.

Anyone else heard of it?

You know what? That's not a bad idea! If they'd make some android with a big nuclear storage in the belly that would suddenly start running like mad shouting: KAMEKAZE!!!!!! and the self-detonate. That would be soooooooooo cool:D. Probably will be used by terrorists though. And that would mean every public building will have metal detectors. Aah, that takes away all the fun from secretly being a robot. :(

Wow, the Nohonjin think of everything. That thing about how androids could fool us into thinking they're human sounds more like a movie premeire on Sci Fi to me, though...

Still, that'd be pretty cool. :D Imagine your best freind at eight suddenly admitting to being a robot.

Kathy: I have something to tell you... I'm an android.
Kelly: ...

What's next? Floating cars? Buildings in the sky? Colonies on the moon? Oh, I know! A big space war! lol

Wasn't there a huge showcase of flying cars at last year's San Francisco Tech convention?

I remember there was a huge discussion about it, how NASA is thinking making everyone have a flying car in 20 years or something.
