Theme

LEGO model illustrations

Let's face it, LEGOs are awesome. they're like tangible voxels, and you can piece them together to form abstracted 3D shapes. What do you see in your mind's eye when you see the models? The task: illustrate an interpretation of an existing LEGO model.

The model you pick doesn't have to be one that's officially manufactured by LEGO. You could even create your own model, and use that as the basis of your illustration . As long as there's a photo of the model, to compare against.

One other restriction: do not pick LEGO models that are models of established objects, either real or fictional. After all, what's the point of illustrating a LEGO model of the Statue of Liberty, which was based on the original Statue of Liberty?

Requirements
•You will be working alone for this contest; no teams.

•You may submit more than one entry, but submissions will be judged separately and you may only have one in the top three.

•Entries must be suitable for a PG-13 audience meaning no porn or extreme violence.

•Previously posted or old artwork will not be allowed.

•Entries may be in any artistic media: pencil, ink, computer graphics, paint, etc.

•The file size must not exceed 400kb size limit.

•Moderators reserve the right to disqualify any entry if it does not meet the theme requirements and/or if it violates any of the rules.

Submissions

Post links to your submission in this thread:
http://www.polykarbonbbs.com/showthread.php?t=27020

All comments in the submission thread will be deleted so please no comments in that thread.

Deadline

Entries for the contest must be posted by 11:59:59 PM (PST) Sunday night, August 28th, 2011.

Judging

Entries will be judged on skill and creativity, as well as identifiability/similarly of the entry to the illustration to the original model.

Prizes

Winners will receive an awards badge under their avatar.

Getting Started

Also can we use lego clones as source? as in: http://my-clone-bricks.webs.com/bestoftanksetsmade.htm

Again, I'm tracking. I can take a photo of one of these, and draw it.

Wait, what? You provide a very nice list of links to sites with cool LEGO stuff, but we can't draw oh, let's say, a Star Wars Imperial Star Destoyer? There are established LEGO pictures of these iconic models, but I can't use them? The rules are almost contradictory, based on my rudimentary understanding of American.

I have a picture of a LEGO model I'd like to draw. It's from a TV series, and I took a picture of it made out of LEGOs. According to the restrictions, I can't draw it, because it's a fictional object?

Confused am I. Clarify you could. Hurts, my brain now does.

Basic colour scheme down 8)

What if something was first lego and then a movie was made of it?

prof. az: that's right with both examples. if it's an ESTABLISHED fictional object, it's not a valid subject for the contest. essentially, I don't want people to depict things that have already been depicted. Interpreting the LEGO Star Wars Destroyer would be the same as drawing the Star Wars Destroyer...and where's the fun in that?

r. lamb: haha...something like that exists? I guess that's still okay...as long as the basis of your interpretation is the LEGO model and not the movie. that way both your entry and the movie are interpretations of the original LEGO model.

Oh my... I want to submit something. Badly. But I'm gonna try and dig out my old lego pile from the attic. Hopefully I can find some semi-intact vehicles I made. From when I was growing up.. I loved me some LEGO when I was a small chap

can we use a lego model that some one other then ourselves has made?

so like a cool space ship that some one had made and is not a pervious established design for e.g. a lego model of the death star

I'm almost done, but not planning on submiting it until short before the deadline. I want to avoid you hotshots starting to work hard (in case you're not) after seeing my entry
