Default Syko's Sketchbook - Warning: Nudes.

Hello everyone I'm new here, but I been drawing for a while. Drawing intro class and in middle of life drawing class now at the Art Institute. ^^
I guess you can say I'm a bit of a beginner or a little bit past that at drawing, so please be nice, I'm trying my best to get in drawing practice between all this studying.
Well I guess I'll be posting occasional sketches here and would love to get any critiques you all can give.
well all my work as of now that I did not throw away or refused to show are here:
http://www.sykotifachan.deviantart.com (go to scraps for life drawings. I decided if not colored I wouldn't keep it in gallery, to encourage me to practice coloring as well )

EDIT: Now currently taking art classes because I attend Art Institute and Major in Visual and Game Programming ^^ hope you will help to critique me as I get more and more lessons in drawing traditionally, digitally, and even 3D <3 ^^

So what exactly separates you from the 1,000,000 other dA artists who can only draw the same type of manga? I'm not trying to be rude, but you need to get past this is style if you indeed want to improve. Learn the basics first before you simplify them into anime figures.

well. I do have realistic art spread throughout my gallery so its not the only thing I draw, its just I'm still learning it so I don't always put as much of it up.
I been working on realistic drawing for 3 years, but its just not that good yet.
examples of realistic ATTEMPTS (they may not look it to you.. but I tried..) :

it may look a bit anime/manga-ish still but I am practicing life drawing and have registered for art classes next semester.

There are little bits that give a glimmer of hope, the flowers and a couple of the eye studies. Anatomy needs a little work though

let me start by saying your flowers are awesome

but the latest one has some anatomy problems

I'm not really good at anatomy without refs but I had a go at it
so only read on If you are up for crits

the biggest mistake in the last image is planning or lack there of I'll explain with a redline
heres your skeleton
http://www.iceangelgames.com/art/nov...linesyours.png

as you can see the backbone bends inward and goes awkwardly into the pelvis the pelvis is twisted opposite to the ribcage (which it can never do in real life (^_^)) one arm is missing if you dint have a ref this is understandable(but if you are unsure about a pose you should look for refs) and the legs and head are a bit large
(be assured that when I started out mine looked a lot worse)

now heres mine it may be a little off but I think it points out the errors I can see http://www.iceangelgames.com/art/nov...n/redlines.png

now someone much more skilled than me will probably come and tell me off for teaching bullshit and supply you with a better redline (^-^)b

I would explain better but its time for me to go to bed (^_^')

Thank you very much ^^ I did draw a guideline to it but I think I been having a hard time knowing the lengths and such of the different body parts in comparison to each other. ^^ I'll try practicing it with that as a guide now ^^
trust me I wanted this critique sooo bad
x..x I don't like when people just tell me its bad but doesn't tell me how to fix it D:
so thank you very much

and to anyone else, if you can give me more advice on how to fix I'll completely appreciate it

More variation in nose shapes/eye shapes/head shapes. Makes it harder (for me at least) to do normal anime/manga.

Also, in the above image her head and neck should be placed a little farther on the left.

Right direction though. No one is born able to draw anatomy and it can be hard to learn - I struggle - but you seem to have a good sense of observation. Try hard to crit your own drawings. You'll improve fast.

Hey there, keep the efforts comming ) I don't know if I can be of any help but here are a few tips and tricks that may pull it off for you. You've probably gone through several of these but just in case I'll pop in whatever crosses my mind.

Try to draw -big- as often as possible. Drop the A4 standard printer sheets and give A3 a try (double the size basically. I'm not familiar with US standards, I guess that would be moving from a 8x11 to a 11x16 or something).

Feel free to practice random body parts using reference, draw 40 close up mouths, noses, eyes, arms etc.. as many angles as possible then redraw them again and again ^^;; (draw them big so you can add the finer details) Add shading to make sure you get a general understanding of the shape and not just the outlines.
Same goes with full bodies. Try "fe/male figure" in google images, that should hopefully get you some material (I haven't tried)

Have you tried looking at your drawings in a mirror? That will usualy help you notice your mistakes.

Details are important (I don't know how to explain this one differently xD) It's one of the reasons why drawing big is generaly the better choice.
Food for thought looking at your drawings: make sure the things that should be straight -are- straight (umbrella, or glasses for example), that the size is correct, etc.; the list could go on.

Trying any combination of anatomy/art/tutorial/proportion in google will probable get you a quick overview of the proportions of the human body. It shouldn't be followed blindly but it is a very good basis.

Hope these help somewhat.

ah yea thanks I would if I could but not sure where to get big paper around here for cheap x..x sorta broke here
BUT I am starting art school next semester and from then on so they should give me big paper :3

ah yea I been looking through all kinds of tutorials but I'll continue to as well

as for the mirror.. eh.. I don't have a good figure x..x and I can't seem to draw an Asian face so it always comes out horribly D: I think I need more general practice before then.

thank you for your time I hope that I'll have improved drawings to show soon <3
