HERRRROOO!!!!!! this is the first time in about three years that I've posted here it's been a long, long three years, with a slow decline in my own art productivity but I WILL NOT DESPAIR!!! I've started plugging away again, trying to get my engines going and it's...working. But truly, if it wasn't for the advice and encouragement that I found here at polykarbon, I never would have pursued art in the first place. It was when I stopped posting here and around the internet that I started to teeter I think. so um, yeah, anyway....HOORAY ART!!!!!!!!!!

enjoy! (hopefully )

Well, for someone who's just got back into art... you're off to a cracking start man.

Really interesting stuff, diverse and plenty of ideas. You're anatomy studies are great, very expressive lines, and I love the birds... I've never tried drawing a bird in flight from a worms eye view... kinda scary when you're put in that position :/

I say stick around and see where your art takes you. We need more people like you round here :d
btw is that black and white piece with the girl and the animals a lino print? The ostrich is awesome.

thanks man, I look forward to seeing some of you work

the black and white one was actually a cut and paste collage from a bunch of magazines. I made a negative of the collage (shadows as white, highlights as black) with a plastic overhead projector sheet and a fountain pen. then I exposed it on top of photo paper in a dark room and developed it and, voila! it was actually a lot of fun. I recommend it if you have access to a dark room.

Those are some really sweet anatomy studies and i love your animals too! The black and white projected collage thing is just awesome. Sounds really interesting, i wish i had the knowledge and resources to experiment with that.

You have an interesting style, keep working with it and don't let the engines stop!

Well, very cool.
I like the perspective model, the toothpaste and the coloured paint.
Especially the black inked drawing of you made my day.
I have nothing else to say, except:

Default update July 11, 2010

thanks for the comments guys
here's a little something I've been working on over the past little while. I don't know exactly how many hours I've put into it so far, but probably well over 20. It's not quite done, but it's getting there. I couldn't wait to show it off though, I'm so darned proud of it :p

I used a reference image for each turtle and made a stencil of each on the urn by covering the back of each image with pencil and then transfering it to the urn by outlining. The urn itself is just one of those orange clay pots you find at gardening stores. My plans for finishing it are to somehow create an effect of light on the surface of water, rotating around the inside.

Even though the song is about birds, it was the original inspiration for this.

Awesome dude!
I like it, the tones of blue are really nice too, and I think having the white turtle stencil gives it that whole "aqua" feel.
Well done

p.s.

Cool urn. Can't wait to see the finished product, my wife does the same transfer method using pencil drawings to clay pots as well.

2nd drawing in first post is my favorite, love everything you've done with the foreshortening and form.

Awesome art! Great that you're getting into the swing of it.

I love that turtle urn.

I haven't posted in a while but I've still been working. I'll have to scan and upload the stuff I've done, I'm just not too proud of much of it...It's a tough slow process but I feel like I'm getting somewhere at least.
I did this self portrait though which turned out pretty good I think:
