Default Broody's Sketchbook- Celebrating... Uh... 38 posts?

Hi, I just joined the PK forums. But I have been browsing them for a couple of days. Congrats to all the members because this is an awesome place. I look forward to participating with... mmh, posts..., and a few drawings thrown in for good measure. But frankly I was just very excited about starting a sketchbook as quickly as possible.

Here are some of my character concepts:

I don't have a scanner so I took shots with a digital camera and then worked on GIMP to make the colors clearer and the image less blurry. Yes, I suck at image editing software...

There are no names on the second image, I like to call the one on the left "the Knight of Skulls" (because I'm too sure Skull Knight has been done), and on the right is another image of Laisy Mage, with the hood on.

This is on the same page. The man in the middle is Sir Brand, the knight. On top we have a nasty goblin. It looks like a cross-breed between Yoda and Gollum (it takes guts to picture that)... But it gets the job done, I think.

These are just some faces... I'll post things that are truly criticable (sp?) later today.

Welcome to PK. Very good job, nice clean lines and very unique style. Like you said its a bit ard to crit because those are only faces but so far so good. Post more.

Oh yeah and I get two red Xs. One above the sir Brand pic and one to the left of the Knight of Skulls one.

Thanks for the comment, Alphaf. I'll have to repeat this in the appropiate place (your sketchbook thread), but I'm a big fan of your Warcraft inspired art. I love the runic tatoos on the characters. I'd like to see you getting to draw some girls, though!

More images coming up in a few minutes. I have to properly ink a lot of my work, though. It'll take a while to get it all in here.

EDIT: Here I have a couple of pieces:

Top pic: Laisy Mage tames her Boar Cauldron.
Bottom pic: Portrait of Sir Brand, still haven't inked all of it because I'm not comfortable with how the body looks.

Actually, I want to get around to drawing a comic strip. I usually focus on making a few characters, then drawing them in some scenarios. At the very least I think I'll put up an illustrated story by the time I'm done.

Too bad I'm away from my camera at the moment. While I can't put up some more pics, I'm working on inking, inking, inking!

Now for some real action. Sir Brand goes to town. Some Weresquirrels get it. That's right, Weresquirrels.

Hey, remember that thing about me not owning a scanner? Well, I found out that HP puts the darn things on their printers. So now I'm re-posting some of my pieces that didn't look really like I wanted them to.

Turns out the automated detection at Image Shack considers this image of Laisy Mage as "pornographic material". Weird since I didn't have that problem the first time I uploaded it. Well. I'm with Photobucket now.

And some new stuff:

The Blackforce Crusher, something you don't want to meet in a dark alley... Though that alley would have to be 100 feet tall and wide to let it through.

Broodagoz charges into battle.

Thanks again for the input, guys. Good to see you like it! More is on the way.

Dannysketch, I'm actually 1 year older than you. The rope won't have to be too long, he he.

For the moment, here is a cartoonish character I want to use in the FC.

The idea is to have him look like a wicked undead spanish Conquistador. Hope I got that right.

The legs look a tad to small and un-bulky compaired to the shoulders and arms, but then again the hands are smallish and they seem to work for some reason so you might have ment it to be that way ^_^ I really like your artwork, it all seems very fluid and the poses are all really *Kapow* ish ^_^ crazy awsome

I think te small hands work, but his legs look a bit skinny and unstable...i think you should thicken them up a bit or maybe shorten them if your going for distorted proportions.

Yes, I was going for distorted proportions on that dude. Maybe I didn't think enough of the legs, I thought they would look good that way.

Anyways, I have 3 more sketches to post. IMO they aren't that great, but they are interesting. Hopefully I will have something better soon.

A generic law-enforcing hero. The anatomy on his arms and limbs is a little off. I think it came out well overall.

The Blackforce's Venom Lord. Leaves behind him a path of decay, is constantly enshrouded with deadly poison gas, and is just evil in general terms.

This brutal Dragon Legionnaire annihilates some poor cannon fod... er, martial artist. I like how the knight came out, not so for its victim though.

See ya all tomorrow.

That venom lord looks nice, kind of like predator (first i thought the tubes coming from his head were hair, that's why =). And the dragon's sword is awesome.

You are right about the Venom Lord, the shape of his armor makes him look similar to a Predator. Funny since that wasn't my source of inspiration.

This one I called "Quality Time". Sometimes you just have to take a break from galactic conquest and overseeing the Clans, and play with your pet skullworm thingie.

Noice stuff, you have a very cool style! That Dragon Legionnaire looks wicked, although the motion of his sword seems a bit... awkward, somehow. Don't take me too seriously though, I'm just a wee n00b at this game I'd love to see some of your art colored up!

*** UPDATES BELOW! ***

I know what you're talking about in the Legionnaire pic, Jimm, I noticed it too. Probably it's because with the characters in such a position, using a stab as a killing blow seems much more natural and that's not how you hold the weapon when you stab someone. The knight would have to be holding his hand and weapon pointing at the victim's back instead of being held vertically for it to look like a natural move, but then you simply wouldn't be able to see the sword. I'll keep that in mind for the next time.

Sadly I don't have any coloring pens and I suck at image editing software so I don't know if I can color the pictures.

I have a ton more to post today! Hope you like it.

Messed up her right arm. It's very hard, but if you imagine it's a perspective trick you can get by it.

In this one I didn't handle the legs too well. But maybe it doesn't look that bad.

This one I rather like. It's a Dragon Legion Wyvern Rider. Sorry if the Wyvern looks like Yoshi.

Sir Brand squares things off with the Dragon Legion. I can't quite put my finger on what is wrong with this one. C&C appreciated.

You can view all these pictures better organized at my Photobucket Album, here.
